The Bear Hotel

What a lovely spot! Easy to find and nice and central. Joel (the manager) is a super friendly chap, always happy to stop and chat and ensure we were having a good stay. He directed us to good places to visit and eat in the area as his kitchen was closed due to Covid. He was a great example of what a good publican should be! The room was clean, very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was great too with a good sized shower, lovely flooring and plenty of shelf space. Staying here made us feel at home, so much so we extended our stay by an extra 2 nights. We will definitely be back!

Great haunted location. Good value too.

Nice atmosphere to this pub with helpful staff. The accommodation was clean with a good decor. The included breakfast was freshly cooked and good quality. Some noise from the bar could be heard in the room, but not enough to disturb any sleep (unless you're a particularly light sleeper).

Hotel in beautiful old town. Our room for 4 people was spacious, big beds and big blankets on them. We enjoyed our sleep. Only minus was that there was no bathroom in the room. Only shared bathroom with shower. But all around nice place.

The biggest mistake not checking reviews. The only positive remark of this terrible place is that the towels were white and in good condition. The same cannot be said of the shower the bed the stairs etc. It would helped if they had provided readily available information on PARKING and local restaurants. NOT CHEAP. the bar was popular and VERY NOISY THE FIRE ALARM WENT OFF AROUND 11pm I dread to think what would have happened in a real Emergency

Room was very nice and clean, with a nice clean bathroom. It was on the 1st floor and very noisy due to the pub jukebox blasting out all afternoon and then as it was a Saturday there was a live band which was even louder. They do mention this on the website so it was no surprise, but be ready for it.All in all the room was perfectly OK, and the noise was expected, so not a big problem.The pub is in a great location at the end of the High St, very handy for the shops.

Had breakfast at the bear this morning. If you want a full English in Marlborough I would definitely recommend it

Great location. Comfortable bed. No hot water in the showers for the past three days.

Not recommended. Good location, but that’s about all that’s going for this place. We booked several months before a wedding and had early check in confirmed for our stay as we needed to get ready before attending a wedding. When we turned up at the time agreed on the phone, the woman at the desk said that there was no record of us booking and made it out like we were lying about our reservation. She eventually realised that the booking wasn’t appearing on their system because the man who worked there has made a room mix up and given our key to another couple an hour before and the couple had already been using the bedding and towels. Rather than apologising to us and the other couple the man just blamed the other couple and said that they shouldn’t have taken the key. HE should not have GIVEN the key to them. At the time of booking, the cheaper room that the other couple had booked was not available so we had booked and paid for a more expensive room with en-suite.Because the hotel staff wasted our time, we then had very little time to get ready for the wedding.Because of the room mix up by the staff we ended up sharing a bathroom with several other bedrooms. The hand towel was constantly damp and not changed whilst we were there and the toilet paper had run out before the evening and it was not replaced so I had to make do with Kleenex tissues which I fortunately brought with me.The staff said that they would part refund us for the inconvenience and because we had paid for a nicer room (with en-suite), but we never received anything. No one was at the reception when we checked out and no one has replied to my emails since (giving them the opportunity to part refund us). Really disappointing and awful customer service.
