Swinside Stone Circle
Probably one of the least visited but most atmospheric stone circles in the lakes - and it's a proper stone circle at that. If you go you'll quite possibly be the only visitors so you get to really appreciate the place.

A beautiful, tranquil place. Limited parking opportunities. The track up to it is only for farm vehicles, and a bridle path. I was advised to park in a space on a bridge, just past a farm on the right of the fork in the road. Walk back and take the uphill track. Its a nice walk there with great views.

It's on private land, but accessible and free to view. Only authorised vehicles can drive on the path leading up there. You can, however, walk there and view the stones. The stones are on the field surrounded by sheep.

Very quiet and tranquil. Amazing place.Easy to get too - although the final road up to the site isn’t really that suitable for cars. Next time we are going to park on the main road (where the wooden signpost with Stone Circle direction is).

Great walk for the kids or those not wanting to do too much. About a mile from where we parked. We parked in the layby just down from the actual track up to the stones as you can't drive up to it (it's private land). At the fork in the road take the left path and just keep walking for 1 mile, you will see the stone circle on your right hand side. You can't really get lost and it's worth the uphill climb for the stunning views

Beautiful, raw nature. A complete stone circle. It is on unexplored paths and demands 20 mins walk from parking point. It's in a sheep farming village. So no official parking and roads are narrow. But people are friendly and guide you. I just loved the whole experience.

Nice visit to a remote Neolithic stone circle, easily accessible via a clearly signed bridleway. Road to site is narrow and parking difficult. Top tip drive past the bridleway which forks left from the road, continue past the small hamlet and about 400 meters is a bridge with space to park 4 cars. Then a short walk back to the track along the road.

Stunningly beautiful stone circle. Well worth a visit. But, there's only a couple of roadside parking spaces (on side of very narrow road)You can walk to it from other places, scope it out before going

Cockpit Stone Circle, CumbriaLow lying stone circle estamated to be constructed in 3,500 B. C. There are 3 cairms close to the circle. It is thought to have been a bronze age trading route which connected Long Meg and Mayburgh Henge. This stone circle has been capturing my imagination for some time now. There are some wonderful legends such as the ghostly presence of Roman soldiers marching across the fell, along with other accounts of paranormal activity and strange phenomenon stretching back over the decades. Divock Moor is certainly an interesting area.
