Rivendell Buddhist Retreat Centre

A small Buddhist retreat centre in rural Sussex. I have been to Rivendell several times and have always had a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

I attended a Yoga & Meditation Retreat at Rivendell. It's a peaceful sanctuary away from our busy world with beautiful grounds and profound gentleness.

My first time at Rivendell was a great experience as a refresher course. Situated on beautiful grounds, this retreat holds an environment of peace, open space and community spirit. The facilities are of a good standard, it is not too overcrowded and has a welcoming feel.I look forward to attending again one day.

I stayed there for an introductory weekend a number of years ago and then about two years ago after 20 years and each time returned home totally refreshed, relaxed and so much happier. The atmosphere is one of love and kindness and it rubs on each other. For me it was a way of recharging my emotional and mental health and well being. I would go again when I am lucky to find a place as it gets booked up well in advance and I am not in a position to decide for ahead.

Rivendell Buddhist retreat centre is a beautiful former Victorian rectory with lovely gardens in a great location for walks.This was my first retreat in October after several years going to Croydon Buddhist Centre and I wish I did it sooner.It has simple accommodation with basic showers, I recommend you bring outside slip-on shoes to get to the shrine building like sliders and wellies in winter for walks. It is very well organised with good systems for running the place and the vegan food was fantastic! I bought the cookbook but haven’t use it yet…The teaching, the silence, the experience was beautiful, and at the end of the retreat some of the people that attended the retreat broke out in tears of joy, and I felt I had an extended family with our shared experience.I will be back! In fact, I have already booked for next year in June.
