Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel

Odd place, not terible but not amazing either. The staff were great; one lady really helped me out after getting back to the hotel after a few too many beers and carried my case up to my room... my room that was basically in the attic, up a million flights of stairs, with no smoke alarm installed, a broken blind and a glass shower door that opened directly onto the sink. Great location, but it could do with a serious refresh as very dated.

Not bad. Staff were very pleasant and friendly. The hotel itself could do with a refresher. Carpets are old and stained. The location is great. Parking on site is OK but there is a nightly charge of £12. Considering the price of a room £140 per night and the tiredness of the hotel, either parking or breakfast should be included. WiFi was good and reliable.

Could do with a like of paint here and there but in general, well run, staff really friendly and the towels are superb. Good atmosphere. Breakfast good. Nothing really bad to say. I enjoyed my stay. Thank you

The Rougemont is literally opposite the train station and a few minutes walk from many restaurants and the high street shops. The rooms were spacious and clean. The facilities like the bar were a little hard to find. We didn’t have breakfast as we felt it was expensive. We used the luggage storage facility which was very easy. The hotel and rooms were too hot. I would definitely stay again though as we felt it was good value, the check in and check out times were good and you can’t beat the location.

Clean, functional and efficient – ideal for the two night stay we were having. Some particularly elegant features in the building, alongside friendly & helpful members of staff. However clearly getting dated, with lots of minor damage visible in the room. Would recommend if you need a stay in the area and can get a decent rate.

Total mess up on check in. Told room was ready, but when I got there it was being cleaned. Waited 10 mins, but still mid clean. Supervisor gave me an alternative room, but my cousin pointed out that was her room. I left my case in another friend's room and was told I would have my original room later. When I tried the door on return with my key it did not work. Back to reception for yet another try to get a room.This time success!! I could not lock my door however, so I was a bit nervous as had no confidence that my room would not be given away again. The room was mega hot, turning the heater off made no difference, and it still belched out heat. Opening the window helped a little but it was noisy outside.We met at the bar later to have a drink before we went out. We all wanted a G+T or just a tonic water. The bar had no tonic at all so we went elsewhere. I have stayed at this hotel before with a much better experience!

My parents had a lovely stay at this hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the bathroom well lit and clean. Little amenities such as robes, a fan (there is no air conditioning) and a coffemaker were a plus. It was also quiet for being so centrally located. The staff are all friendly and helpful as well.Just a warning (and not to do with the hotel) that I dropped off and picked up my parents at check-in and checkout, and was parked in front of the reception entrance for about 15 minutes on each occasion, and was sent parking fines from Parking Eye for both days. Apparently you cannot do drop off or pickups inside the hotel parking lot.

I enjoyed my stay at the Rougemont Hotel. It’s centrally located, handy for shops and 30 seconds from Exeter Central train station. I stayed in a junior suite which was roomy and comfortable. I had an early flight so didn’t avail of any hotel services. A good stay though.

Comfortable stay with good room facilities, spacious bathroom with nice toiletries and good sized bed with snug coverings, though one pillow was a bit lumpy....Good selection at the breakfast buffet and the breakfast room provided pleasant surroundings.Hotel was festively decorated which added a bit of seasonal cheer to our stay with the large lobby and main stairway feeling very warm and welcoming.Very conveniently located, immediately opposite central station and just a few minutes walk from the city centre, bars & restaurants.Door frames, widow frames and some painted surfaces are, however, looking a bit tired in places
