Caravan Towing Tuition

I had just bought my first caravan, a large twin axle and after going on a couple of weekends away I realised I didn’t really know what I was doing and was probably a danger to my family and other road users. I was having restless nights before each trip worrying about towing safely. I decided to book a lesson and came across “Caravan Training With Dave Griffin” on the internet, after reading the excellent reviews I decided to give Dave a call and I am so glad I did. I booked the condensed full day training course and Dave made me feel relaxed & comfortable from the very start. Dave covered everything you need to know regarding caravanning and driving with the caravan. He helped me focus on where I felt my weaknesses were and helped me eliminate my anxiety.An excellent driving instructor Dave is patient, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humour. He made me feel comfortable and confident behind the wheel, and I learned a lot of very good and useful tips from him.When the lesson was out on the roads we covered all types of roads and situations in Dave's very nice pickup truck and with his twin axle caravan. Dave was always willing to go at my own pace, and he never made me feel rushed or pressured. He was also very good at explaining things in a clear and concise way.All in all an excellent day out and well worth it, I can’t wait to get my caravan out next week and I highly recommend Dave to anyone looking for an instructor whatever level you are at.

I really enjoyed the course and found it to be great value for money. As a first timer, not only did l learn how to safely tow and reverse a caravan, but Dave (who is a first rate instructor with a sense of humour) also highlighted some general road safety aspects l can apply to my everyday driving. It certainly gave me bags of confidence to tow my first caravan.

After a few trips with a friend in their caravan, I decided to take the plunge and get my own but have never towed before. Dave was recommended by a friend as the go to person, and he fitted me in for a full day extended course before I went to collect it. It was an excellent day, we covered so many really useful things and did around 150 miles of towing on motorway, dual carriageway, A and B roads and even some country lanes. We even went through the centre of Exeter! We also did some reversing in the quiet yard where he is based. Dave had even picked a caravan for the day which matched the one I was buying in terms of size/weight. Nothing was too much trouble, he put in a really long day, was great company and very patient, professional and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed the day and felt confident picking up my new caravan and towing it to its new location 75 miles away. Thank you Dave.

Comprehensive, reasonable and enjoyable. My wife and I spent a full day with Dave learning about every aspect of towing, and owning a caravan. Dave is a caravaner himself and we picked up lots of great tips.After a full theory discussion we spent time driving around and manoeuvring using Dave's vehicles (brave man!) on all types of road/road conditions.It gave us both confidence that we could collect our new caravan and hitch/unhitch and tow safely.An absolute bargain too at under £300. Just bring a flask/bottle of water and sarnies :-)

We both attended the condensed course 15/06/2023 as absolute caravan novices . We pick our caravan up at the end of the month and with no experience we thought Dave might be able to help. He certainly did and with bundles of extremely useful information, enthusiasm, professionalism and laughter. We asked a lot of questions and grabbed a lot of top tips. Out on the road Dave was patient and made us feel at ease. Both of us now feel far more at ease regarding the caravanning adventure we are about to embark on. Highly recommend for both novices and those who want to gain more knowledge and confidence.

You really must do Dave's course before setting off with a caravan or trailer, very enjoyable and informative. I've been driving for 55 years grew up on a farm and thought I knew everything about towing and reversing large and small vehicles and trailers etc. but Dave taught me so much, including theory and driving on his whole day course. We covered about 100 miles with me at the wheel, great experience. If you have a partner I recommend they join you because they can also do some driving and listen and learn from Dave's tuition and experience, the 60 page booklet you get after the course is packed with all you will need for trouble free caravanning adventures. Can't recommend Dave's course highly enough.

This was my first experience of towing and preparing to tow a caravan although I had been on campsites in my Campervan before. This full day course was very comprehensive describing first all the procedures and equipment that could make you safe before your journey begins and offering advice even on the best pitch for one to obtain. Trailer Dave took me on a 120 mile journey on the the roads I would encounter and offering advice from an instructors point of voice on the best way to approach differing situations. A thoroughly informative and yet humorous course. Very enjoyable.

Wow what an amazing day with Dave. A must course for all newbies to caravan towing. Dave’s knowledge and professionalism is 5*. We started anxiously, hence the reason for booking this course and left the day feeling fantastic with a clear understanding of towing our van with confidence and safety to us and all other drivers on the road. The course is value for money and can’t stress it enough that everyone thinking or a beginner to touring do such a course then Dave is the one to go too. We have full support from Dave and if any doubts or a refresh on what we learnt today, then we know Dave is just a call away. Dave supplied a certificate for the training completion & a full detailed booklet on the training provided, very useful and will always be by our side when we go on touring. We completed Dave Griffin's one-day caravan towing course yesterday, and it was well worth it. The day starts with Dave's explanation of practical, relevant advice on owning and using a caravan in addition to what to do when towing and setting up on site. The practical driving training took up most of the day and Dave was patient, good-humoured, giving clear instructions and advice. We had never towed anything and by the end of the day we felt much more confident and ready to get going with our caravan. The e-book is a really handy reminder of Dave's advice that reflects his expertise as an instructor and as a caravan user. We highly recommend Dave and his course.

Excellent course, lots of information ranging from key safety points to useful hints and tips for preparing to tow and setting up when you arrive. The driving experience has been invaluable. Dave took us on a route which included all types of road from motorway to narrow country lanes and included driving through town. His expert driving instructor knowledge combined with his easy going sense of humour meant we learnt so much (including correcting some bad driving habits!) and we have now been confident, as new caravan owners, in driving our caravan down the sometimes challenging Cornish roads. We would recommend this course to anyone, of any experience, Dave tailors the day to meet your individual needs.
