The WORST home, do not EVER allow your loved ones to end up here. I could share some absolute HORROR stories about this home, like the time my dad (wheelchair bound with dementia) was locked in his own room by another resident (innocently - I do not blame the resident for this as she clearly had dementia also) who came into his room while he was sat in his armchair, the resident came into his room, locked his door from inside, closed his curtains and got into his bed. The staff did not know this had even happened until I arrived and couldn’t get into my dads room to find the door locked and him shouting help me, so god only knows how long my poor dad had been locked in there and NOBODY could find a key! Eventually after multiple telephone calls and a long wait a key was found and the resident asleep in my dads bed was woken up and taken to their room. Another time I went in they had some residents sat in a circle in the ‘living room’ attempting to make them all sing ‘wheels on the bus’ treating them like children, so so disrespectful to see and very hurtful that anyone would ever think this is an appropriate way to treat our older generation. Yes my dad had dementia but he was a very proud man. A final example, this home LOST his glasses (he wore glasses from childhood and was severely visually impaired) during the pandemic, during the time the residents were all kept in their own rooms and my dad was wheelchair bound so he certainly didn’t loose them… they didn’t contact any of our family about this to let us know, (we couldn’t visit during lockdown so we didn’t know) they didn’t order him any more glasses. And after this his dementia escalated rapidly and he sadly passed away only a few months after this. So he spent the last few months of his life UNABLE TO SEE and this home is to blame for that and I will forever believe this is the reason his dementia escalated so rapidly. I blame Claire from adult social services from South Tyneside Council for choosing this home for him.
