The Green Man Takeley & Boutique Hotel
Really calm and nice inn to stay at. Sheets were clean and our room felt clean. Uber to/from airport at the time cost about £16 and took 15 minutes. There is a local bus from/to the airport as well, which cost around £3 per person, line 508 at the time.

We had booked this “boutique hotel “ on the premise that it had a restaurant on site for a night prior to a flight from Stansted. We received an email informing us that the restaurant was closed due to chef illness. We attempted to cancel and get a refund on the grounds that we had been mis sold the room, this was refused by the owner.We went to look at the hotel on our way to Stansted; well more “boot-eek” than boutique. Bar/restaurant has clearly been closed for weeks maybe months. Very dirty and run down. Customer service very poor. On seeing It we chose not to stay .

No toilet paper, no teaspoon for tea, no hot water in shower, shower tray fills with water, shower door off runners. Also would have been nice to have two pillows. Other than that it was average. Oh and bed squiked when turning over in bed.

Complete scam!! Don’t waste your money.I arrived at the property around 6pm and found nobody around at all, windows dark, restaurant closed. It’s out of the way and was difficult to get to, so that was scary already.Walked around the building and found a rickety metal staircase up to a single metal door with a sign saying the check in instructions were supposed to be emailed and WhatsApp/texted to me. I dug through my inbox and couldn’t find anything.I attempted to call the number multiple times (it states help is available until 10pm) and the calls just rang out.I was never contacted back.My credit card company then attempted to contact the property and also didn’t get a response for a week, at which point I have now been told the owner has refused the refund request.I was left on the side of the road in the dark (as a solo female traveller) and I think that’s completely unacceptable but apparently the hotel doesn’t see it that way!!I would say “don’t stay here” but even if you book the hotel you probably won’t be able to get inside.

Small room but clean and fresh. Booked a room for 4 persons but got only 2 towels, small issue. 10 min with taxi to Stansted or 20 min by local bus, but if leaving in the early morning then bus is no alternative.Cute neighbourhood! The staff at the restaurant, Dara, were lovley, the pad thai was good but the both the red and green curry was extraordinary good! Highly recommend! Overall a good experience for just one night.

- it's not close to airport. Uber,bolt,bus not coming here on early morning.- very low ceiling. My husband too tall.- poorly rooms.- worth no this money- WiFi very very poor quality- dirty toilet ,not cleaned-asked one bed. Got two separates+bath+comfy pillows

Avoid at all costs! Despite advertising as 24 hour check in, and me contacting beforehand to let them know my late arrival, I was stuck outside waiting for 40 min calling the hotel phone number. Nobody was picking up, it was raining and it had gone past midnight. Thankfully found another hotel after walking around this unknown area in the dark, no data, with my luggage as a single female traveler. Eventually, the owner had called me back and was extremely rude, aggressive and condescending considering I was waiting for him in the rain for nearly an hour. He refused to refund despite me not staying in the hotel and him not guaranteeing over the phone that my room was available for me, he lost his temper and shouted at me continuously. I very rarely write reviews but the thought of any other traveler being potentially stuck in my situation doesn't sit well with me. After my complaint, the booking company attempted to contact the hotel several times over 2 weeks but got no response, the customer representative told me how unusual it was for a hotel to be nonresponsive, in general seems this hotel is incapable of the bare minimum of communication. I cannot stress enough, this business does not deserve your money!

Room 4. Terrible mattress, everything creaks, black mold in the bathroom. Huge amount of road noise if you are at the front of the building, which wouldn't be such a problem as there is secondary double glazing and shutters, however on a hot day without a fan being provided it's far too hot to be with those in place so it's road noise or sweating.We arrived at 3pm check-in time to find urine in the toilet, tea in the cups and wet towels in the bathroom. Clearly not cleaned. Nobody was there so we left and came back. Two hours later and we can finally enter the room.Staff don't bother responding to messages or answering the phone.

I only visited the dinner area. Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. Food, and chatting with locals
