Baddow Road Long Stay Surface Car Park

I park here because I work in central Chelmsford. It's only a short walk along the river from the town centre but access in & particularly out with a car can be difficult due to the one way road & its proximity to the Army & Navy roundabout. It's a pay & display car park which currently costs £5.50 a day. There are frequently problems with the ticket machines, some of which take credit or debit cards as well as cash (no change is given when paying by cash).

Bumpy, poorly lit, prices you're charged don't match the tariff board. No CCTV I could see. Not brilliant. Board says £1 for the evening, app tried to charge me £1 / hr.

Good place to park near to town, lovely walk along the river to get to the shops

Its car park. It's long stay so generally cheap for a long stay. Easy parking and decent sized bays. Getting out onto parkway can be a right pain at busy times. Parkway appears to have been a construction site for the past 20 years so watch out for rerouting or the inevitable crash on the flyover.

Handy for the city centre. However: surface very rough; car access not the easiest as you have to double back from a roundabout to get in and out. Only one electric charge point and it was taken when I arrived, so left.

Decent sized car park and convenient location. Needs resurfacing and my last two visits have both involved near misses with broken glass

Having at least half of the payment machines working would definitely improve things. I'm not used to having to try five machines before I can pay.Talking of paying; it will be interesting to see if I've been charged twice as the first time I tried to pay with my credit card I didn't get a ticket.

Best parking location for night time city visits. Cheaper than the rest and doesn't close like meadows where you can be locked in over night.

There is easy access to this car park and usually plenty of spaces after the morning rush is through.Luckily it is possible to pay by card and via a mobile app because the coin machines can be unreliable and temperamental.This is the best car park to use for the Essex Records Office - but beware, the access bridge can be treacherously slippery in wet, icy or damp conditions. The bridge surface is constructed from oak planks - hence the slip hazard, but the planking has gaps of up to 2 inches that could easily allow any dropped coins, keys or even mobile phone to fall through to the river below. Ouch!
