Great location with very ambient space. Comfortable seating and cool interior. The food looked great but did not taste the best. The roast beef was very over cooked and dry. The vegetables were also over cooked and chewy. The other food looked better but I can’t say for sure. All in all, not the best Sunday dinner but still an interesting building.

Nice traditional pub with friendly staff. The only let down was the food. The batter on the fish was doughy and not crisp as it should be. The garden peas tasted old and bitter as can be seen in the photo. My company's mashed potatoes were wet and rumpy. sausage had a weird taste. They need a cook who actually knows about cooking.Don't come here for food, that's for sure.

Brilliant place to go for lunch in city centre - would've gone back if we could've remembered where we found it.Lovely warm lounge area, helpful, efficient staff and lovely hot food. Definitely worth looking it out.

Fantastic!! Rump was tasty, great Yorkshire pudding, peppercorn sauce gravy awesome. Tomahawk pork chop special was delicious, perfectly cooked. Chicken ham hock pie was really good. Great service, nice for families or for adults, great little niches for everyone!

We arrived earlier than our booking so we were able to sit upstairs and gave some drinks whilst we waited. We booked online. We sat in the bar restaurant. We had a table for four. We sat near another table but enough space between the two. It was a cosy pub. Staff were friendly. Clean environment. Toilets upstairs on third floor. The food was delicious. A nice variety of choice. All four meals were incredible.Recommend if visiting to York.

Could be great . nice pub. However very young staff. Very pleasant, but no idea. My pie was bland and there were hardly any veg to share. My friend asked for a coffee...they had no milk but poured the coffee and informed her they were going for some. Then served it. She had to ask for it warming up. The food needs elevating somehow. Would return, but not my first choice to book again.

Had a fantastic early evening meal of Fish and chips at this gem of a pub! Fillet fried to perfection and lovely chips with mushy pea side dish. Unlike most other pub/restaurants it was just the right portion abd done very well! Excellent choice of beers and spirits as well as traditional and contemporary seating areas. They also have a great looking room upstairs for functions, highly recommended overall!

I live in York and used to adore this pub. The Sunday Roast was soooo good and really friendly, attentive staff. Visited a couple of weeks ago with family (who also used to love it) but all felt really disappointed. We had 2 Sunday roasts and a pie & mash. The vegetables weren't as abundant as before, the cauliflower cheese was half cooked and stone cold. The waitress didn't offer to change it, just said sorry and she'd let the chef know. The pie that was ordered was the wrong one too! The waitress did offer to change this, but we didn't want to wait any longer, also leave a person to eat alone. Ordering drinks was a mission, we had to keep asking because the waitress kept forgetting. I'm not sure if the pub has changed hands. The staff aren't the usual staff and certainly not as attentive as before. Sadly, I won't be going back.

Proper pub in every respect. Has three separate rooms, one at back is for dining. Homemade pies. Loos are upstairs. Dog friendly. Live music. Quiz night. Handpulled cask beers were Theakston Best Bitter, Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Rudgate Ruby Mild and Acorn Brewery's Drop Kick. Warm, snug and friendly.
