Tolbooth Tavern
Lovely traditional Scottish pub in the heart of Edinburgh. Food was amazing , we had black pudding and mackerel starters with fish of the day as a main. Portions were generous and everything was fresh. Beer was maltsmiths lager which was very refreshingService was amazing and very attentive , would definitely recommend.

Lovely pub very close to city centre and station. Great choice of meals including plenty of options for vegetarian diners - including delicious veggie haggis, neeps and tatties. Highly recommended.

Came for our anniversary meal. The haggis bon bons were lovely but we were a little disappointed with the haggis burger and the chips seemed like they were frozen fries. The staff were lovely tho & recommended 2 really nice Scottish lagers for us which we really enjoyed.

Loved stopping by this little pub with a good bit of history to the building. The interior feels unique with two floors and an interesting bar itself. Friendly staff. We had the cranachan here which was delicious and a surprisingly rare dessert to track down.

A fantastic old pub serving an array of local brews and whiskeys… as well as any other drink you may fancy. Service was excellent and our bartender Luke was entertaining and very informative. We inquired about the place and got a brief history about it served alongside our great draught beer. It is an excellent spot to rest your feet and take in some local grub and libations.

My friend and I stopped in here hoping for a warm meal and a break from the wind during our visit to Edinburgh. Little did we know, our lives were about to change forever. That's right: I'm talking about Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, recommended by our waiter. I was hesitant to try a dish with such an odd name (and even odder ingredients), but I don't think I've ever cleaned my plate that fast. We wrapped up the meal with a perfect Baileys Latte and the best Sticky Toffee Pudding I've ever tasted for dessert, and left the place full and happy and even a little bit awestruck by the impeccable meal and cozy atmosphere. Will absolutely go back here every time I'm in Edinburgh!

During our 14 days stay we tried to eat at this pub. We were always told no space. Or waiting was over an hour. After our third try we finally got a table. The beers are excellent. The service is nice. However food so so.We tasted Cullen Skunk soup at every pub we had food. Their soup was so watery. Only one tiny piece of fish and tones of chunky boiled potatoes. Truly not edible. My salad had ample omout of cheese. But dressing was almost a non-existence part of it. My husband's steak and haggis pie was good. Sticky toffee was great. So if you go to this pub, enjoy your beer and desert.

Not sure they wanted me to stay at first as a single tourist, starter red pepper and goats cheese croquettes were delicious, sadly the mains of Steak & Haggis pie was dissapointing, steak lovely, hardly any gravy, and a slab of haggis which was tasty popped on top, but then dry old flaky pastry was on top, and small jug of gravy would be nice to go with the chunky chips (frozen ones but nice), veg was stone cold...asked for more and this time hot but raw...granted veg should be cooked al-dente but these were uncooked and hard.Unfortunately the table was still sticky and hadn't been wiped from last customers, the english waiter was lovely and tried his hardest to make everything ok, and was friendly.I felt for him as I work in a Busy Pub Restaurant and also own my own Hair Salon, so customer service, friendliness and cleanliness are top of my list in any place, amd felt he was trying to make up for the other staff.Rest of the staff not very friendly to be honest, unless your a regular.!Been 11 years since stayed in this area. And was looking for a nice old typical scottish pub, 200 year old should be wonderul I thought.....shame 1st night and sadly let down. :(

I recently dined here with my mate and decided to try their fish and chips, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The fish was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a flavorful batter that complemented the fish beautifully. The chips were also spot-on - golden and crispy. The portion size was generous, and the meal was served piping hot. The ambiance of the pub added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. I highly recommend trying their fish and chips; it's a true treat for your taste buds.
