Auld Orwell Cottage

Literally can't fault this cottage. Beautiful location an easy walk from the Stein Inn, and an ideal base for exploring Skye. The cottage itself is extremely well equipped with everything you need and some thoughtful extras. Spotlessly clean and very warm and cosy. My friend booked and had fantastic communication from the owners, and the size and layout was perfect for us as two couples on holiday. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed at Auld Orwell in May 2018, it will forever be a memorable holiday in a beautiful house in a stunning location. We have been to Skye many times and stayed reguarly in Waternish. Once right down on the Loch, but the garden and the views make this cottage very special. Please booke this cottage, it's fantastic!

The cottage was lovely. Had everything you would need. Modern yet quaint. Great enclosed large garden for our dog, with an amazing view and the most stunning sunset ever night. Comfortable furniture, great fireplace and good space. Lovely walks near by. And very close to Dunvegan which has emenities. We are already considering our dates to return next year.

Didn’t stay here but lived close by but looks beautiful and have been informed by the people that were staying there it was spotless

This is lovely cottage in a fantastic part of the world. The waternish peninsula is a great base for a week of exploring. The cottage itself is well appointed and was very clean. It was also nice and warm on a cold November week. The cottage being dog friendly was also ideal for us. It’s located close to the Stein inn if you want a beer and also close to Loch Bay restaurant which is a must visit.

Had a fantastic week in Auld Orwell Cottage. I've stayed in many holiday cottages over the years and this cottage is by far the best both in location, comfort, facilities and décor. It really is a home from home. Everything good quality and really clean.Loved that the garden is fenced in so that our dogs could be let off the lead which was a great relief for them.Could have easily not bothered going anywhere as the location and views are fabulous. Really loved it and definitely on my list to return to.

This is truly a delightful house! Great care has been taken to ensure everything needed is at hand.A real treat was the delicious home baked cake awaiting us, along with local tablet and a vase of beautiful flowers.The cleanliness and quality of furnishings in the house were first class.We had just one week there as were travelling on to North Uist but would love to return for longer.Our dog enjoyed her stay also in the safe enclosed and very spacious garden with fantastic views out west to the Outer Isles.The owners also gave a list of dog friendly walks which was extremely useful.A wonderful retreat for any time of the year!

Our second visit to Auld Orwell Cottage (May 2021) and we just love it. We have been coming to Skye for over 20yrs and stayed in many cottages, but this is my most favourite. It has just such a lovely, homely feel, very warm and comfortable. Every amenity that you could need and a lovely enclosed garden, especially for our Newfie Kipper... and the view is just stunning over Lochbay and the islands, beautiful days, whether rain, snow or sun (seen it all from here) and the most glorious sunsets your could ever imagine.Lovely to hear a cuckoo, haven’t heard one in years, watch the buzzards and even an eagle... a few years ago I actually saw a wildcat in one of the gardens along the road from Auld Orwell, so if you go, keep your eyes open...An ideal place to base yourself for touring the island, the fabulous Stein Inn down on the shoreline, Skyeskyns, just along the road, we have several skins at home from there, definitely worth a visit, beautiful quality. Worth checking out Neist Point at the most north west point on the island too and just so many other places...If you are looking for a cottage with an inevitable view, that’s warm and inviting, fabulous hosts and just all round gorgeousness, I would certainly recommend Auld Orwell cottage, without a shadow of a doubt,Can’t wait for our next visit

What an absolutely wonderful place to stay on Skye. Teresa and Angus have kitted out Auld Orwell really nicely - there’s everything a family could need on holiday.The kitchen has a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, large fridge freezer, small dishwasher and a washing machine. There are two bathrooms, both with showers and the three bedrooms are very comfortable. The heating is VERY efficient, but there’s also a lovely open fire too.The garden is fully enclosed and escape proof for all but the most determined dogs.And to top it all, the views down towards Stein are breathtaking.To help you have a great stay, Teresa and Angus have set up a really very useful ‘Manage My Booking’ site with everything from instructions for the white goods to dog walks - and it’s mobile friendly too!Finally - a note on the wonderful Teresa and Angus themselves.The week we stayed we had a couple of problems - the fridge failed on day 1 and then our car ran out of coolant. Angus managed to source and replace the fridge within 24 hours - no mean feat on Skye and then when the car played up he fetched us some new coolant from Dunvegan. That sort of hospitality and help is pretty much priceless when you’re on holiday with two small kids and a dog! Auld Orwell is wonderful - and so are its owners.

Lovely traditional cottage with all the comfort you might want. Waternish is a lovely 'hidden' corner of Skye, and the cottage is in a lovely setting on the peninsula. The views from Auld Orwell are amazing and will keep you entertained even when the weather is not helping! Do visit SkyeSkyns, Stein, the little churchyard, Dunvegan, Edinbane... so much in the direct area and the rest of Skye itself of course!
