Whitworth Estate & Deer Park

We've just spent 5 nights at the hotel and the food was very good and varied. The staff were excellent. Polite, efficient and very friendly. Couldn't fault anyone.The deer park was a bonus, as every day more and more babies were being born and the grounds offered many relaxing walks, either at the start of the day or at the end.We certainly wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here.

Somewhere special to take that someone special! what a beautiful located hotel! although i did not stay here, i did walk into the lobby and wish i was staying there! the place looked amazing and so relaxing! i had 3 kids with me so it was out of the question but maybe at another stage of my life i will be sure to stay at this beautiful establishment. The dear park on the other hand is perfect for kids! kept them entertained for hours feeding them. Would highly recommend a visit.

Lovely small hotel with a deer park near Spennymoor. I met some friends for coffee and scones in the Garden Room. We had the room to ourselves as it was very quiet mid week. The coffee was good and the scones warm and delicious. Very reasonably priced too. Service was very good; staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Me and my husband had a fantastic stay here! The location was perfect. It was our wedding anniversary and wanted to escape the kids. The room was lovely and clean and the bed was really comfy. Best night sleep in a while. Loved the whirlpool bath and stunning views. Breakfast was nice and if you didn't like anything on the menu you had a choice of pastry's and fruit. Very nice indeed!Only thing is I found the girl on check out was quite snooty and lacked any conversation. Also when queried about the bill payment she replied oh it's just going to this amount of money out" which to people who have saved up to come is a lot.Other than that fantastic stay would recommend it."

This is a beautiful hotel set in a wonderful deer park. The rooms were clean, tidy and well equipped. The staff were very friendly and helpful, unfortunately the hotel was extremely quiet which I was told was unusual but that did not set well as it was a Friday night. The hotel looks like a stunning place for a wedding for which it has won awards. Did I enjoy it, yes but it would have been better with someone to share it with.

The hotel and grounds are kept immaculate and we enjoyed the peace and quiet as my sisters and I have such busy lives we needed to wind down. I was amused looking out over the area the deer roamed. It was such lovely weather and many people were there to visit the deer and help their children to feed the deer with little packages purchased at reception. The staff are very helpful and we were treated well by all from Reception, through the bar and at evening meal in the restaurant. The food was exceptional and the menu had choices to suit everyone. Our room was on the first floor and we could not fault it. We had everything we needed. We are already planning our next visit.

Fantastic hotel in a rural location. Lovely rooms, helpful staff and lots of deer! You can purchase deer food for £1.50 a bag from reception and go feed them which is an awesome experience. If you are feeling brave you can even walk into the park and get right in on the action.It's such a nice place to getaway and is a perfect wedding venue too - this would have been a contender if I had known about it when I was looking for a wedding venue.Great for wedding, great for a breakaway- just great. Go visit, even if it's just for a cup of tea and to fees the deer!

stayed for 2 nights in June. food was fantastic, as was the service. standard rooms could do with modernising, but very clean. all staff were very helpful and friendly. prices were reasonable and the surrounding area was stunning. there is a fully stocked fishing lake which was very popular with locals and a dear park that was open to walk around and feed the dear. Would definitely stay here again.

Myself and a colleague stayed in the beautiful retreat. We had a warm welcome from staff and an immaculate room. Only minus would be that it was only a shower and no bath. However we weren't deterred by this. Food here was beautiful presented in the restaurant and very good value. I would not hesitate to stay here again anytime I'm in the area.

What is going on here? Why are doors closed and locked.Where is the deer gone. Summer walks around the lake, weddings x
