Gretna Green is a parish in the southern county of Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, and is situated close on the borders of Scotland and England, defined by the small river Sark, which flows into the estuary of the western contiguous Solway Firth.Gretna Green is a village on the Scottish border that is world famous as a romantic wedding destination. First, over the border, it became a haven for young lovers following the 1754 Marriage Act introduced in England and Wales. It's a romantic destination.Gretna Green's famous Blacksmiths Shop, the Old Smithy where lovers have come to marry since 1754, is still in the village and still a wedding venue. There are now several other wedding venues in Gretna Green and marriage ceremonies are still performed over a blacksmith's anvil.Gretna Green is famous for marriages with around 5,000 couples tying the knot here and in Gretna every year. Historically it was to Gretna Green that young English runaway couples eloped so that they could be married ‘over the anvil’ from the age of 16

Gretna green is an awesome place. We saw a couple who had just married & the bride was in her beautiful white gown & the groom was wearing a traditional scottish kilt. Been to gretna green before & it was just as nice as before. We got loads of scottish shortbread in different varieties & some souvenier scottish teddy bears for gifts. Was a nice stop over on our way back home & a very memorable holiday

Got chatting to some American tourists in the food queue. I ordered 'the last' fish and chips at half one. My husband had scotch pie. All cold, all greasy. I shudder to think what the foreign tourists thought of it....

A kind of place i would steer away from, being a tourist curiosity with inflated prices.Although i did not buy anything it was sunny and peaceful being out of season in January, sat in the courtyard as others taking in the winter sun. Interesting history.

Went there on 21/10/23, because of it's history. Made a purchase at the food hall was served by Sheila D, thank god for names on receipts. No greeting, no eye contact and money placed on counter and not in my hand, as I placed my money directly into her hand. Need to improve your customer service Sheila.
