Joke 51 hours for recovery and £100 sorry compensation. Left me sat on my own hours no communication. Contractor for recovery only have 1 star reviews for never coming. No one was ever allocated my job. Taking to ombudsman

Signed up to RAC with home start (returning customer), next morning the car won't start. Made the phone call to them for assistance and they informed me that I would be charged £170 because it wasn't the full 24 hours after sign up. Absolutely fair enough, I completely forgot this in an absent minded moment so I told the operator I would call back later or tomorrow, as it's not an immediate emergency to which I was informed I would be charged regardless JUST FOR MAKING THE PHONE CALL AND NOT EVEN FULLY REPORTING THE BREAKDOWN! I even stated that I haven't so much as told them the nature of the breakdown at that point and that I am more than happy to call back later. Nope, You will be charged as you have called to report the breakdown within the first 24 hours".Membership instantly cancelled. What an absolutely disgusting way to treat a new/returning customer!"

Rubbish recovery service. Where are they when my car is broken down on a main road / major bus route off a roundabout for hours on end. Had half hour window cancelled twice out in the cold.. this will end up being a 12+ hour recovery away from home.

The most atrocious experience I have ever had. Took 13 hours to recover our car from a busy dual carriageway. No communication which could be relied upon. There is absolutely no focus at all on customer experience or trying to do the right thing for their customers. Logging your breakdown on the app is unhelpful, far easier to talk to someone to explain your location and the problem at hand. Phoning is a disaster as there simply aren’t enough people to answer calls so wait times are extraordinarily long, especially at night. RAC also failed to tell me for three hours that they would arrange a taxi for our family to go home until the patrol was available to come to our assistance. But they couldn’t even do that after an hour and a half, so we made our own travel arrangements home. I cannot find one redeeming feature of the RAC experience or so-called service. I left Britannia Rescue as it became expensive - now I realise what I should have known before - you get what you pay for, except in the case of the RAC when you don’t even get that. My subscription ends in a month and I will be cancelling, never to return. Nothing would ever lead me to recommend the RAC to you. Go for Britannia Rescue or Green Flag - in fact anything but this.

I want to just thank the two men iv had on both occasions of breaking down. Each have been more than helpful, quick, adaptive and both so lovely!! Driver of only one year and always apprehensive about additional insurance premiums. I must say worth every single penny, 45 minutes arrival from initial call!! Thank you again

AVOID AVOID AVOID - Been a member for 30 years! Had very little need to use them until recently. Following an accident (in which I was injured) I called to ask for their help to recover the vehicle. After a long wait I was told to try my insurance or local recovery as they would not help. (My 'Arrival' policy clearly states they will recover after an accident.) Not interested. I have since made several calls and filed a formal complaint but no one will discuss this with me and no one has returned my calls.Disgusted and looking to take legal action to recover 30 years of wasted premiums.Staff have been totally unhelpful and don't return calls when they say they will. 'Left hand doesn't appear to know what the right hand's doing'! Chronic disorganisation.AVOID AVOID AVOID

After having been hit in my car and it being immobilised the RAC were called to recover my car. Now bare in mind my car was on a single carriage way (a very busy road) causing an obstruction. Now when I spoke with the RAC I was told that they were very busy and they wouldBe with me by 1pm, this was 2 hours away. I was not happy but what could I do? I called the police to make them aware I was causing a problem (they never turned up) so I sat and waited. At 1:30pm I called the RAC again to get an update as it was now 30 minutes past the time provided. I was told that I should not have been given a time but she could tell me that I wouldBe dealt with by 3pm. I was then called by the RAC and told another time filled by being told at 2:40 that a recovery firm was on its way and would be with me in 50 minutes.30 minutes later I received a call fromThe recovery firm asking for information to send the correct vehicle. I asked were they not on route as the RAC told me half an hour ago they were. He assured me they had only just been given the job and were in Malton so yet had to travel toHull.I rang the RAC and ended up in an argument with the RAC staff. At 4:30 I was in pain and decided I to go and seek some medical attention plus sitting in my car for 5and half hours had taken its toll on me.Later I received a call fromA manager who stated he would deal with my concerns and anotherManager would contact me within 10 days.I received my call and the manager accepted that mistakes were made and offered me £150 compensation.Had they just been honest on the day and kept me updated I would not have been happy but would have understood the situation.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!Last night our car broke down in the city centre during -4 degrees outside. Issue is the simplest battery issue which is quite common during this sort of weather. We reported the issue at around 6pm and the estimated arrival was given as 10:22pm.Then their “online tracker” said latest is 10:36pm. After waiting for over 4 hours, we finally called them to get an update and then it’s quoted that we’ll get help at 2am next morning!!After hearing 2am and quite certain that if at this rate waiting for RAC recovery can possibly put our lives at risk, we called a jump start service that arrived within 10 minutes and helped us get to safety. If the truth was communicated when the breakdown was reported, we could’ve looked for other options much earlier without the possibility of putting our lives at risk while waiting for RAC recovery!Issue is still on going with them quoting they’ll arrive to take a look between 7am and 12pm, which is needed as the car isn’t fixed yet but ha, I don’t even trust that quoted time! When you call RAC first they ask “please confirm you’re not in danger right now”. No, my car did NOT put my life in danger, BUT RAC DEFINITELY DID PUT OUR LIVES IN DANGER.AVOID. There’s a reason AA has a better reputation. We’ll be switching and making sure everyone we know switches as soon as I ensure RAC fixes my current issue purely to utilise my monthly payments to this unethical company that should NOT be advertising as a breakdown service!

After helping a elderly couple with there breakdown and the experience both I and they had I guarantee I will never use this service and will be call the couple to cancel there policy,How does a elderly couple use a automatic voice service that tells them to go online to report a breakdown when they have a flip phone, needing myself to report it for them and even after given the info, including that there elderly that the arrival time is between 1-3hours in the weather (nearly freezing)Even after that myself getting finally through to a actual person after a 20min wait, they can’t fine the report even with a address, time and name and then tell me even if they we to find the report the time probably wouldn’t change.I would not be surprised if this company lasts this long with the service they are providing.

Absolute joke. Car got picked up on a tow on Monday night to get delivered to a different location. It is now Saturday night and we have had no updates. We have been calling up numerous times a day for updates and we are being told that we will get texts and calls back. We don’t. Complaint has been put in but nothing is being done about it. Called up again and found out that the previous calls we had have not been noted and that the car has actually not moved since Monday. The employees are rude on the phone we understand that working in customer service is stressful but when you have a paying customer asking for some information and help the employees should not be ending the phone call with “whatever bye”. This has been a stressful week for us basically doing their work finding out where the car is and when it is getting to us. Friday we got a text saying the car will be with us on Saturday between 8-12am, it got to 1 pm and the car was no where to be seen so we called up so see what’s happening and got told that it was cancelled at 11am which AGAIN we had no update on. Awful customer service, awful experience.
