The room had a lovely canal view, we booked it for parent 60th anniversary and they enjoyed their stay very much.We had afternoon tea with them, which was enjoyable, but I wouldn't have paid that price if it hadn't been a special occasion, very steep. Especially since a week later we paid half the price elsewhere at a.lovely place. and got a lot more quality food and drinks for our money. For the price we paid, they could have at least given refills for tea and coffee. But all in all it was pleasant and we did enjoy our parents' anniversary treat.

I have visited Lion Quays many times in the past with friends & my mother. We always had a good experience. At the time of booking it had been approximately 4-5 years since i last vited but i decided to book a suprise visit for my husband as it was our anniversary. We visited for our anniversary 25th September. We booked a spa visit with an overnight stay and evening meal. On arrival lots of changes had taken place. The first issue we encountered were the lockers, they simply wouldn't work on arrival or exit & we had to come out into reception for assistance. It went downhill from there. The spa is in great need of a revamp!. No showcave, although still advertised on the door. The experience showers are a joke!. One shower barely working, holes in the wall and broken tiles. The ice bucket looked ready to fall down from the cracked ceiling & was empty & not functioning. The thermal spa was barely functioning!. The pool was in darkness and the water cold. There were 2 jets working on side. It was so dark I bashed my foot making it bleed so we had to get out, which was a reliefas it was so cold. The steam room was unbearable due to the overwhelming smell of mould. We went up to reception and reported but nothing was done, inface we were made to feel an inconvenience. We went next door into the pool area where we used the steam room and jacuzzi- they were functioning OK but it was so busy as everyone was in there instead of the thermal spa.We stayed less than 1 hour due to the dire state of the place. I was embarrassed to have brought my husband here!!.We left and went over to the hotel. We reported the issues to the hotel when asked how our visit was.The room was lovely, beautiful canal view with a bottle of bubbles. The evening meal was great and was breakfast. We have complaints regarding the hotel stay. Our complaint is purley with the spa.I was advised by the hotel to send an email of complaint with photographs. I have up to date sent 4 emails with not one reply which I find disgusting!. Our Anniversary was ruined thanks to the spa visit. I would strongly advise against booking the spa. Just take a look at the pictures. The fact not one email has been acknowledged either is appalling. Save your money and don't book!!!

Came for our 1st wedding anniversary. Room nice and clean and quiet. Could do with trees cut on balcony. The meals we had in the restaurant were lovely and the staff in the bar ( especially the manager and the girls) were fantastic with us. An absolute pleasure. Spa was nice. One day was a bit cold In the thermal side but I'm not gona moan. Only thing missing maybe a bit of entertainment and a tv in the bar and better wifi. But all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our 1st anniversary and thank you especially the bar staff for looking after us. We will definitely come back .

John was fantastic in cafe ash. He went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and is excellent at customer service. Chatted to us about the coffees and made us a new coffee he was trying for Halloween. Was such a nice visit and he was the main reason it was betterThank you

Stayed here as visiting someone nearby. The best word I can use is that the hotel is tired and just needs a little bit of attention. It’s the culmination of small things such as weak shower, peeling paint/wallpaper, and running out of hot water. Remember the Hotel has “luxury” in the title. It’s also surprisingly hard to walk anywhere - the canal towpath is on the other side so the option is a country lane or a very busy A road with a small footpath.Staff were all friendly and attentive in the hotel and the bar/restaurant. Breakfast was good; a solid cooked and continental buffet offer - although the room was very busy, hot, and noisy and we had to wait for a table.

Nice hotel with spa. Rooms and service are a bit dated with the restaurant in particular very slow and didn't clear our tables either of the evenings we stayed meaning we had main empty dishes whilst they served desserts. Staff seem tired, short staffedand distracted so took a while to get attention. The food was incredible, recommend the lamb or fish and chips and pavlova for dessert if available! (It ran out one evening.)Rooms are tired and small but clean and adequate for a short stay. The spa is fantastic and definitely recommend booking a treatment.Overall a pleasant stay with nice grounds with streams and water features and greenery.

My boyfriend and I had the most amazing time celebrating his birthday and our anniversary. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful, even leaving champagne and strawberries in our room to aid the celebrations. The spa and gym were amazing, really clean, welcoming, relaxing and not over crowded. Ladies the hair straightens and hair dryers in the spa were top notch too! The food in the waterside restaurant was also beautiful, we had a package that included a 3 course dinner and it was so yummy! I’m glad I didn’t eat breakfast and lunch so I could fully indulge! The portions were very generous. Can’t wait to go again! Highly recommend!

On arrival, I waited to be served in reception as the clerk was on the phone. This wasn't an issue and we were in no hurry to book it.There was another man there who I was informed, was the resort manager gave no eye contact or greeting. Whilst waiting another couple came to the reception the Resort Manager Matt/Mark immediately greeted the couple and ushered them to check in, completely ignoring me, and the desk clerk serving them first. I called my partner to come and stand next to me as perhaps as a woman I couldn't be seen! I addressed this with the desk clerk (the manager had left) and he apologised, so obviously he had seen me waiting but decided others were more important than me.Moving on we stayed in room 211, I have attached pictures. They left a bottle of Perry this was probably due to the state of the room. Flies and dead insect marks all over the walls, dirt and just a general lack of care. The toilet in the bathroom would not stop running when I flushed the toilet at night, there was no toilet roll holder, towel rack was rusty and dirty. Not all lights working, grimy carpets. There is massive room for improvement in customer service and cleaning. The spa itself was a completely different story, polite attentive staff, well kept areas its a tale of two cities.

This hotel is worse than a Holiday Inn. Threadbare carpets, shut off lounge which is a dumping ground, 90’s decor, terrible pillows. Even the tea in the room was tasteless. The restaurant is nice, decent food and decor. The service is fine, although a little parochial… there seemed to be only 1 wine menu for example…The spa is tired and has seen better days; only half of the jacuzzi works, lots of broken lockers and the central seating in the changing rooms has rips.Badly in need of a major renovation.

I had a really pleasant stay at this hotel on my way back from a business trip. The room I got was surprisingly spacious, spotless, and just what I needed to unwind. Waking up to the serene view of the canal was the cherry on top. Oh, and you've got to try the burger at their restaurant - it's a winner. Seriously, the best I've had in ages! Breakfast didn't disappoint either; it was spot on. If you're looking for a spot to recharge with some great food and peaceful views, this is the place.
