My nan was unfortunately in this home for about 6 months. For the last month or so of nans life she was bed ridden and stopped eating. One day we realised her wedding AND eternity rings had gone from her fingers! We were told she had been washed down that day and the staff didnt know where they were, and could hav got lost through a hole in the washing machine!!! Staff never mentioned the lost rings again just replied that they hadnt been found when we asked. There were 2 rings went missing that day . . . .Nan sadly passed away a week ago.A day later we went to collect her belongings from her room, and some of her personal care had been taken from the drawers in her room!!!! Why staff thought they had the right to do this is beyond us but it was too upsetting to even question. We had also been paying for expenses on a monthly basis that my nan was too poorly to use i.e hairdressers etc. We never got that money back. The room was never cleaned all the time nan was in there bed ridden. The day my nan passed a member of staff ensured us that we would receive a call from them to explain exactly what we now needed to do. No one ever rung, let alone make an appearance at my nans funeral. . . .

Care staff are very friendly but the care home wreaks of urine the minute you walk in. It needs a major overhaul on beds etc as so old

I can wholeheartedly recommend Port Regis. I thought it was about time that I reviewed this care home as mum has now been a resident for 18 months. After being evicted from her previous care home as there were worries that she was aggressive and they did not have the right staff to cope with her. I was concerned as there seemed to be a lack of understanding of Dementia which was the reason mum had been admitted in the first place. I wanted a place where mum was not only safe, but happy and well cared for. We viewed several; Port Regis was one of them - it was clean, with no unpleasant aromas, and there was a separate wing for Dementia patients, the west wing which is where mum resides. Mum was given a room with en suite toilet and basin and beautiful views over the lovely grounds. I was worried at first as she hated being moved again but soon seemed settled. There are numerous activities from crocheting, drawing, history pictures, chair exercises with balls, visits from dogs - someone is there 5 days a week just to do these activities. The television is not often on as there is a lot going on. There is also a quiet room where the radio is playing and residents can relax here. The dining room is spacious and opens onto the garden as does the activity room which also has a hairdressing salon. The garden is next to a nursery and you can hear children when they are out in their garden. The staff are the best I have come across they all know mum and recognise me when I arrive. She can be feisty but they treat her in exactly the same way that I would and I can only sing their praises. Mum got ill and had to go into hospital and the staff kept me informed every step of the way and also with her progress once released from hospital back into their care. I can call at anytime and there is always someone whom I can talk to about mum and they always know what is going on day to day with mum. I cannot praise the staff enough, they are always willing to talk to me if I have any concerns, but most of all they know mum well and recognise immediately if anything is different in her behaviour - which could be the sign of any potential illnesses. I really hope that she ends her days here as she is the happiest she has been in a long while.

Port regis is a great care home ,my mum Mona is very happy. The staff are supportive ,friendly caring. I am very glad to see my mum happy and content. Plus mum loves the food, and enjoys having her hair styled on Thursdays.Mum is very fond of the staff ,and it is so nice to see my mum and residents interacting, with the staff. Port regis has a warm comfortable feeling when I visit.

This home smelt bad the moment you entered and it was evident that their wasn't a cleaning regime in place. Apparently cleaning and maintenance isn't an economic priority according to staff response. Not enough staff and bathrooms are particularly dirty with insufficient window dressings for privacy when facility being used. Washing of personal clothing not carried out daily and left to accumulate therefore often leaving resident without a next day clothing change. No clear indication who the staff members are as no name badge and uniforms are clearly not used universally so it is sometimes difficult to decipher staff from residents!Overall better value can be sought elsewhere in Thanet.

So heart breaking visiting our dad at Port Regis :-( . Disgusting filthy place. Unfortunately dad had not arranged power of attorney and we weren't able to stop he going there. You wouldn't leave an animal in the conditions dad had to exist in. The management were totally unsympathetic. I really cant believe that having found this page online that they are allowed to remain open. Please , if you are reading this, if you have the power to, please do not choose Port Regis for your loved one. It may be cheaper than other care homes but believe me it is not fit for the purpose. :-( :-(
