Beware…from my experience the Roofing Trade is like swimming with sharks. Fortunately, GNR provided a safe island of professionalism. GNR communicated clearly, did what they agreed, when they agreed, explained the Building Regulations requirements and the Competent Roofer Scheme, provided a guarantee for their work, and, perhaps most importantly, replaced my roof stopping all leaks, where 2 other ‘roofers’ had failed miserably. Thomas and his team of roofers worked hard and instilled confidence the way they went about their trade.Note, it’s not clear on the York City Council website and not volunteered by many roofers, but a re-roof of more than 25% of roof area requires either Building Regulations sign off or self-certification from a member of a registered competent persons scheme; GNR offer the latter. So, I can highly recommend GNR…..choose your roofer very carefully.

I cannot speak too highly about Shayne Martyn and the team from GNR. Ours was a big job - a complete re-roof and four replaced roof windows. The team was punctual, polite, meticulous and exceedingly hardworking over the month or so they were working on our house. There was one small snag, not their fault, and it was dealt with in a spirit of respect and good humour. Communications were swift and helpful both with Shayne and the GNR office. GNR is an excellent company which I have recommended to my friends, neighbours and colleagues. But then others recommended them to me - their reputation is deservedly high!

What a fantastic job Geoff Neal (roofing) Ltd have done for us replacing guttering and undertaking outside painting. I would certainly use this company again. Great workmanship and excellent staff including the subcontracted scaffolders and painters.

We’re really impressed with GNR and their skilled rebuild of our shaling chimney stack. The two man scaffold team made swift work of constructing a rig spanning an oil tank at the gable end of our house. I thought that this would be a major hurdle, but they engineered a work of art in what to our untrained eyes was remarkably short time. Shayne Martyn and his two man team followed up by methodical work replacing three courses of bricks and the old chimney pot and cowl. In addition, they replaced a couple of cracked roof tiles. As another poster has commented, there are sharks in the roofing business, and we were very nearly bitten and swallowed whole last year. Geoff Neal was recommended twice after that experience, and we are so glad we followed that advice. Highly recommended without reservation.

The guys from GNR fixed a leak in our attic room due to cracked flashing around the chimney stack. I couldn't have asked for a better service. Great comms, very polite, arrived early and put in 3 full days work - were always two of the guys working. This job required scaffolding, removal of several tiles, old flashing removed, woodwork between the roof and back of chimney, new flashing and re-pointing. All of this was done at a very reasonable price. I had a couple of other quotes in from other roofers and they were very expensive. So, more than happy to vouch for GNR.

Very professional from start to finish and good communication with me. Shayne was in charge of the repairs to our roof and he did a thorough job and he certainly knows his stuff. Would use again.

I asked GNR to inspect the roofs in our home, which is a collection of 19thC converted agricultural buildings that had been completed about 4 years ago. The problem was that the original architect and their contractor for the project had recommended that the original old tiles could be safely reused and that they would last for many more years. This was untrue; we found the first leak about 6 months ago and needed professional advice. GNR closely inspected all the roofs and found that there were many problems; the old tiles were not capable of being re-laid and there were many gaps, letting in water, leaf debris and insects. I employed them to reroof the entire property with the hand-made tiles that were recommended by the local conservation officer. The work was done expertly and expeditiously - and to a very high standard, even with all the original leadwork now replaced. Highly recommended. 5 stars

I had a replacement roof fitted by GNR and I was very happy with the service I received. The quote was detailed and it incorporated well thought out solutions to some of the problems my existing roof was exhibiting. The team turned up when they said they would and they saw the job through to completion. Communication was excellent and any issues that developed were rectified promptly. I cannot complain at all and I would like GNR to undertake more work on my property in the future.

Despite issues with Covid, GNR (Roofing) have done a brilliant job of repairing the roof. Their attention to detail is meticulous, from the detailed survey through to completion. So no nasty when the invoice arrived. Quite the opposite - the amount was reduced owing to some materials quoted for but not needed.I would have no hesitation in recommending GNR tp complete a thoroughly professional job.

The GNR team, and specifically Shayne, were fantastic! The job was recce'd, quoted for, completed, and invoiced within an amazingly short time span. The finished repair is of excellent quality and I would, without hesitation or reservation, commission GNR to complete any other roofing works as required in the future. Great service all round!
