Lovely pub and friendly service, but the food needs work, especially for the price. The vegetarian and vegan options are limited and we found the battered tofu really wet (expected firm tofu as it was supposed to replicate fish and chips. Perhaps bartered halloumi would be a good veggie alternative?)

Delicious Sunday lunch today after a walk to beautiful Alexandra Park. Bear staff were first class and roast dinner excellent. Recommend. Great place away from the city centre crowds. We'll return to try the week day lunchtime menu sometime soon.

Didn't stay at The Bear only ate there with friends. Menu limited but decent selection of dishes. All well cooked and nicely presented. Dessert was something else!!! Lovely evening enjoyed by all.

Delicious Sunday lunch. Beef was soft and Yorkshire pudding was perfect and veg was great. Horseradish was a bit bland, choose mustard if you want flavour in that department.

Really upset with my experience here.I arrived and it wasn’t clear if it was seat yourself or table service etc. so I wanted to ask and also ask for a lunch menu and this wasn’t obvious either.I waited at the bar for a good few minutes when a member of staff said “I’ll be with you in a minute”… I just wanted a menu.I’m heavily pregnant and waiting around isn’t really something I cope well with at the moment. I need a seat.This member of staff proceeded to clean some spoons, pour some water down the sink and rearrange something on the coffee machine. Odd because they weren’t attending to a customer.After a few more minutes she then went over to a table and took their order. At this point I’d had enough and just walked out and went to the Bear Cafe for lunch instead.This was just a quiet Monday lunch time so hardly busy and I was expecting much better service and to be made to feel welcome.There were two members of staff front of house as well so why one couldn’t attend to me I do not know. All in all very disappointing.

Went for breakfast, food was mostly nice but we got some pancakes that had clearly had a mix up. Think someone had accidentally put Bi Carb in, I eat everything and the pancakes were literally inedible. Then the Chef said that it was the soya milk instead of admitting his mistake. Embarrassing, waiter was sound though really polite and he seemed apologetic.

We had a fabulous stay at The Bear. The place is very convenient for the centre of Bath, but far enough away to avoid the constant crowds of the city centre. Our room was very comfortable, with fantastic facilities including coffee maker, fridge, and excellent bathroom with loads of hot water. Staff were very attentive and we ate here for dinner and lunch, both very good, especially the fish finger sandwiches! Highly recommended.

We popped in on the off chance for Sunday roast, and so glad we did. It was delicious. Good friendly service too. Its not cheap but not much more expensive than most pubs these days. We will definitely be back

Food was amazing, and staff were great. The venison sausages and sticky toffee pudding were both delicious. Highly recommend!
