Church of St. Lawrence är en mycket vacker liten kyrka. Utanför kyrkan finns en skylt som berättar lite om kyrkans historia. Kyrkan är öppen varje dag.

Tucked behind the Buttercross monument is a narrow footpath that leads to Winchester Cathedral. You’ll find the Church of St Lawrence on the left hand side of the footpath and about 20m from the monument. To one side of the entrance there is a blue sign which says “BUILT UPON THE SITE OF THE CHAPEL ROYAL OF THE PALACE OF WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR”.I don’t know if it’s the history attached to it, but I once inside I find it to be very peaceful and calming. Definitely worth visiting on your way to or from the Cathedral.

The Church of St Lawrence in Winchester is a medieval church thought to have Norman origins.Located just off the High Street at the narrow end of the Square, the church is easy to miss, completely surrounded by modern shops and cafes. The church is said to be on the site of William the Conqueror's palace chapel, built in 1069 and destroyed in 1141.The church comprises an undivided nave and chancel, small atrium and 15th century bell tower. It is fairly plain in decoration, the most striking features being the roof timbers and carved wooden panelling along the nave walls. In places, the timber panelling bears war memorial inscriptions.
