Sailors' Home Gates
Liverpool Sailors' Home in Canning Place was built in 1850 to provide cheap, safe accommodation for sailors passing through the city. After its closure in 1969 and demolition in 1974, many decorative features were rescued and placed elsewhere.These gates marked the entrance and, now in Liverpool One, serve as a memorial to all merchant sailors to pass through Liverpool.
