So the test I had on Wednesday 2nd August 2023 was my fourth test, and as an academic, I have to commend the examiners for their firmness and feedback. In terms of feedback, Laura and Steve are primus intapares (first among equals) as they took their time after the test to explain what I did well, and areas that need improvements. I must also thank Dave and Dominic as well as they took me through some routes that have made me a better driver. I am grateful for all your feedback. However, I must express my sincere thanks to Steve for his professionalism and detailed feedback. I am very grateful Steve for your feedback, and more importantly for giving me a pass (licence) which we need as a family. I think it would be a good idea for the test centre to organise events for both new and more experienced drivers to share experiences of good practice. Finally, Thank you to the whole team at Lincoln DVSA. You deserve some chocolates!

If you have a routine, don't go there. I've been driving for 27 years. I have been driving in England for 7 years. My job is a driver. But I failed yesterday. Because I routinely used the mirror. This means that I immediately used the turn signal together with the mirror. My eyes are always on the center mirror. So I failed because the mirror and direction indicator should be used separately? First a mirror and then a turn signal. I have a German and Hungarian driver's license. But I have never heard such an idiotic idea anywhere. If you've never driven a car before, I understand. But not after 27 years of practice. I think his name is Garry. Plus you have to turn your head. That's almost 90°! I think they haven't heard of spatial vision here. Plus he said I don't use the turn signal. OK! In my country, it is mandatory to use it at every corner and when changing lanes. He gave me instructions! Roundabout - 3 exits and go straight! But when I come out, the turn signal must be displayed to the left indicating that I am leaving the roundabout. And I failed because I used the turn signal. When I left the roundabout. So something is not clear. I also told him that I am Hungarian. Talk to me in simple words. But he didn't hear what I said. He found no fault in my driving practice. That's why he looked for another one, which is not a real error. Plus the maximum error point number is 15! He gave me 6 points! But he should have passed me by 6 points. Because I didn't reach 15 error points. So it's not really fair.

This was a disaster from the get go. I was introduced to my examiner, I believe his name was Dominic (cant remember surname). To say he created an uneasy atmosphere in the way of the exam is an understatement, abrupt, clinical and devoid of sympathy or empathy. I was asked to review a licence plate that was not fully viewable compared to the one next to it. He took me around some very peculiar routes that seemed particularly advanced, cut me off in conversation because I had talked over a satnav instruction (even though thats not an issue as I can follow the satnav closer to the instruction requirement) and didnt return to the conversation, making for a very awkward drive. My exam was longer than the other person going at the same time as me - he was already back before me with his test result before I had even got back through the gates, generally giving me the impression he was out to do what he could to not help me with the exam condition. Im not sure if I should mention this but I will - I came to a 4 light traffic light (red, amber and green with a green right turn light below). the green arrow light is broken and confused me, I informed him after of this and the response was along the lines of 'yeah sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, just depends on whether the sensor triggers'. Im sorry but while Ive been learning to drive its been hammered into me to make my signals clear for other road users and if this cant be reciprocated by road signage and lights then that should be addressed and not fobbed off. If you get this guy, consider resetting your test or request a different examiner if you can.

I was quite pleased with my car driving test experience at this center. The examiner was pleasant and professional. My personal read is that the examiners here are practical in the assessment: they follow the rules with a general view of whether a driver is safe on the roads and does not “genuinely” commit serious/unsafe faults. This is unlike a lot of other centers where the examiners are so stern and they fail you at a drop for very academic reasons which are actually not unsafe. The driving test routes are all-right: some country roads, 60-70 mph speed limits, some city roads but not super busy like London. See lane markings and speed limits and you'll be OK. Quite a few spiral roundabouts, but quite easy if you practice spiral roundabouts. The center itself is nice, has a toilet, and with quite a few spaces for parking maneuvers. It's a bit on the outskirts of Lincoln. Btw Lincoln itself is a lovely place, quite a hidden gem. Overall, I recommend other centers take a leaf out of this one. As ref: I passed my test.
