Hoveringham Village Hall
The village hall is a beautifully presented place. Well kept and well equipped. I have been booked to call a ceilidh there a few times now and I have to say the ceilidhs were a huge success in terms of entertainment and enjoyment. The only problem is when people enjoy themselves they make quite a bit of noise from cheering and applauding. This brings me to the noise limiter that is fitted in the hall. The bands have never triggered the limiter to cut the power, but the crowd have. Last night they triggered it 9 times in 4 minutes just from cheering. Now they thought it was hilarious...but the band were totally disheartened. Not to mention the band PA which was put highly at risk at blowing speakers, fuses and motherboards. Is it fair to put a bands own equipment at risk like this. We understand you need to look after your village residents and are possibly worried about rock bands disturbing the peace but last night we were a four piece band consisting of a violin, a melodeon, an acoustic guitar and an electric drum kit which is fully volume controllable. The guests were the noise issue. Our major concern is the damage that may have been caused to our equipment through no fault of our own. Posting as a warning to future bands using their own PA.
