Thompson Park
For its type, this is a really great park. First, it's located close to the Grange with entrances from Thompson Road and Newcastle Road. These are busy highways so if you're on foot this park is like an oasis in the desert.Second, the facilities range from a kids' playground at the Thompson Road end to some beautiful planted gardens at the Newcastle Road end. In the middle are bowling greens, pitches for ball games, and so on. You can just forget the noisy, busy roads and relax.It's a good place to take your kids or your dog, or just to sit down on a bench and let some quiet time go by.

I often visit the park to exercise the dog as its just a reasonable walk for me. If I'm feeling a little tired they have a nice cafe where I would go for a sit down. There is a inner seating area but as I have the dog there are also tables and chairs outside. If it's nice weather you can enjoy the weather as well as a nice cuppa and choice of sandwiches, scones, cakes etc but they also do cooked things like scrambled eggs, bacon and eggs. Also handy if you're visiting someone in the hospital across the road to get a snack before you go in.

Work carried out building more play area for younger children,paths put on around perimeter of park. Downside finish to paths is poor

Nice clean park with lots of character. Super dog friendly and lots of kids on the weekend. Highly recommend for a relaxing walk or people watching.

It will be lovely when a the improvements are done . But very disappointed that with all improvements dog walkers have not been considered. With a the land there could have Been an area fenced off for to let dogs off lead. Also no public toilets. So it of a let down.

Grass needs cutting , far too much dog poo on park for a kids park where kids should be able to play without having to clear poo before play. Walk areas nice and wood cuttings brilliant ,really need good toilet faculty though.

Thompson Park is great place to go for a lot of liesure activity,and there's now a new garden centre there as well which is really tacking off and is well worth a visit.The nursery has good quality plants for sale and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Lovely at times because some people do care but then ruined by others who decide to smash bottles, dump rubbish, or not pick up their dog mess because they always believe it's somebody else's job to clean up after them and can't take pride in themselves!!
