Stayed with a friend to go to ZipWorld - I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere with more lovely people. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly for our entire stay. The room was perfect, super comfy beds, lovely hot shower, everything we needed. Breakfast was delicious. Had a curry one night which was amazing. We didn't have a car but easily got cabs where we needed to be. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again in the future. Thank you all for a wonderful trip!

Christmas work lunch held here, arrived at the reception area a big roaring fire to welcome us, led to the table by the staff, the table was well laid out,and free Santa hats provided with the restaurant name on it.The table was for ten people, shame it was not a bigger table as we were packed in very cosily, and it was a bit difficult whilst eating, could have moved the table up more centrally, and placed people at each end of the table allowing more space to breathe. The meal was excellent, I had prawn cocktail, Christmas turkey dinner followed by the traditional Christmas pudding, very enjoyable, work colleagues also complemented their meals as well, staff were attentive throughout the meal. Will probably visit again in my own time. One thing to note the building is near the railway line, so trains do hurtle past on occasions, a bit of a rumble, once it has happened once or twice you soon forget the railway line is there.

Delicious roast. I live in Cardiff and when I come to North Wales the food options can sometimes feel a little dated and choice is less bountiful. Y Llechen can easily rival some of the best roasts of the capital city.I don't eat meat so I'm grateful there is a non meat option too. Service was great and the young girl serving us was absolutely lovely and spoke Welsh which is a HUGE plus.I try to give some constructive criticism in my reviews so if I were to improve Y Llechen I would ditch 'The Slate' and make the branding stronger by only using the Welsh name. As a designer myself, interiors is as important to a dining experience as the food so I'd also hire an interior designer, because while taste is subjective the silver and grey interiors doesn't feel warm and inviting and feels a bit tacky (sorry!). There was some beautiful art work on the walls that didn't stand out due to the grey everything!

We stayed here as we went to Zip world. Jill was lovely and she was really helpful and the staff were lovely too. Room was spotless and comfy. Only negative really was the lighting in the room was too dull but some people like that.We booked the restaurant for one evening and had the rib on the bone for two. It was amazing as we could choose either to have it as a steak each or as a platter. We chose a platter and it came with peppercorn sauce which was gorgeous. It was 60 pound for both but really worth the money. Will defo go back again.

I'm am disappointed to only score the Slate 2 stars, but based on the 2 nights I have just spent there, I cannot score any higher. All of the staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful. The food was tasty, that's if they hadn't run out of the very thing you wanted off the menu. There were 7 things over the course of 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners they ran out of, very disappointing.I had a disturbed sleep the first night and no sleep at all the second night. Unfortunately for me, the people in the room next to me decided to watch their TV until 00.30, at what appeared to be FULL blast. The hotel is situated approximately 10 metres from a train track..... with one guest thinking they had experienced an earthquake, which was actually a train. They ran frequently, the last one being 23.08 and the first 6.00.However, the main issue with the hotel is that there are no staff/management on the premises during the night. This allowed a group of guests to 'party' in the garden and bar area until after 3 am, making beyond an unacceptable amount of noise. Whilst you are provided with an 'emergency' contact number, it should not be up the hotel guests to contact the manager to inform them of what is happening in their own hotel. It was full of paying guests, the least a hotel should offer is staff presence of some description at the property. As already mentioned, the staff were brilliant, I never saw the manager. Due to the disgraceful behaviour of other guests, and the hotels inability to control them, I will not be returning.

Service needs improving - drastically. I asked for a rare steak with blue cheese sauce, it arrived medium with peppercorn sauce. We asked for two cups of tea, we got a small teapot with just enough tea to fill one 3/4 cup, and no spoons. The food wasn't too bad - but I won't be returning.

Fabulous stay at The slate. We arrived early as we’re going to Aber falls to do a gin experience. We were greeted by friendly staff who let us check in and showed us around. After our day out we returned to the slate. We had a drink in the bar and then headed into the restaurant for tea. The service and food was fabulous! The rooms were clean and well equipped with everything you could need and breakfast the next morning was great as well. We all felt very welcomed by all the staff and they went out of their way to assist in anyway they could. Would highly recommend to everyone!
