I was skeptical after reading the reviews but went ahead and rented a fiat 500 for a day. I personally had no issues with this company. Collection and drop off was without issue and the car drove fine.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I rarely, if ever, have left a negative review but this company is a total scam and will find any way possible to take your money.My original booking said “unlimited mileage”. The first thing they did was limit the mileage and try to get us to pay more to get unlimited. I didn’t make a big deal of that because I knew we would not be going over the mileage allowance. They briefly checked the car over for major damage but the guy kept saying things that were setting off alarm bells. He repeatedly said to “watch out for the alloys” on the “premium” car. They also put a £2500 hold on our card, I have never experienced that with any other rental company and was enough to tell me something wasn’t right. We only drove the car once and were incredibly cautious. For the remainder of the time it stayed parked in a garage 400ft from where we picked up and returned the car.Upon returning, they checked the car more thoroughly. I would estimate this check was double the length of the original and he was running his hand over every alloy on the wheels which was not done on the initial check. They ended up charging us over £200 for nicks in one of the alloys I am certain we did not do. The damage was so small it could’ve easily been missed on the initial check (especially because it wasn’t anywhere near as thorough, he didn’t run his hand over every alloy just trying to find damage and depending on the orientation of the wheels would’ve been very hard to see) and now I’ve read reviews, I see this is something they are known for scamming customers over. Not to mention they are checking it over in a dark garage with a little handheld light, as if small things couldn’t easily be missed that way. I should have requested the car be looked at outside in the daylight and taken detailed videos and pictures of every square inch of the car. If you want to be charged for every little damage or for damage other customers have done that they initially leave off the inspection documentation, then by all means rent from this place. If I could do it over, I would’ve lost the money on the reservation and rented through a different company. You’ll end up spending more through Green Motion by the end. It honestly put a damper on our trip because as I said we were nervous to even drive the car based on reviews and then we still ended up getting charged for damage I am confident we didn’t do. Dents and dings happen and it is ridiculous to charge people for tiny damages that will 100% not be fixed moving forward. They will just continue to “not see” any damage on pickup and find it when you return the car. They will say they did the check with you and back you into a corner even though you know the check wasn’t as thorough and you’re under the impression you’re only looking for damage that stands out.We are honest people and have never had an issue with anything like this in our life before renting through Green Motion. If we’d done something to cause the damage, we would’ve accepted that and paid to cover it. You live and you learn and I learned I will never give them my business again. I would encourage others not to make the same mistake as us. I see now there are detailed reviews and articles dating back to 2016/2017 where this has been a huge issue for their company. It’s actually amazing they remain in business. I guess from people like me who often recognize people tend to only leave reviews when they are unsatisfied or angry (in this case there were enough terrible ones I should’ve listened) but probably mostly from all the “damages” they charge their customers for. I don’t know how employs at places like this deal with themselves knowing they cheat innocent customers who are just trying to enjoy their vacation out of money daily. I attached a photo of the damage we were charged for so others can be aware of the small things they are going to seek to make you pay for. I hope this helps someone avoid unnecessary fees in the future or helps you decide to choose a better, more reliable rental car company.

I was very skeptical about renting a car as I’ve heard it can be a bad experience but when we arrived, we were greatly with friendly faces. They helped me to choose an appropriate package as I wasn’t happy with a £1205 excess on my card. Ended up paying more and bringing it down to £400. I can stress enough to take pictures and videos of your car as it comes. I did and it saved me the hassle of having to explain alloys scratches that I didn’t make. If I hadn’t have taken photos and videos, I would be liable for previous damage. Nevertheless, I got my money back today (4 working days post leaving Scotland). They kindly upgraded us as we were attending a wedding, we ended up with a beautiful Audi M Sport 1 Series.Thanks for the great service but please make sure you are not known for scamming on tyre damage as the reviews about that are alarming. You don’t need to scam, you make enough money from renting them out.

If you book through a third party that says you have unlimited mileage, it is INACCURATE! You will not get unlimited mileage and Green Motion will not honor it. They will tell you to claim it back from the third party after your rental and it’s £0.30 per mile above the 100 miles/day. I do not think they’re doing anything to rectify this with the third party (Priceline in our case).Staff was pleasant enough upon pickup.No massive wait like other reviewers.It is hard to get into the building and down to the correct floor.Take pictures of the car inside and out before you leave regardless of what is stated about existing damage. We didn’t add any damage but they look it over with a large spotlight upon return. Be especially careful about tires and wheels as those are the easiest to get marks on when parking and they look them over the closest.If you try to contact via email or phone during the rental, do not expect a reply. You will need to chase them if you want to add days or time or anything.

I have rented with Green Motion at Edinburgh Airport on a number of occasions and never had any issues.Simply get the Secure Airparks bus from the airport and the office is inside the car park, only a couple of minutes from the airport.Good selection of cars and always good value.

We were hesitant to book with Green Motion due to the numerous bad reviews, but we took a leap of faith and opted for the more expensive 'Premium Plus' insurance, hoping this would ensure a hassle-free experience. However, our optimism quickly turned to regret. Our train to Edinburgh was unexpectedly canceled, causing us to arrive later than planned. We did the responsible thing and informed Green Motion with ample notice via both email and phone. When we arrived the next day to pick up our rental, they had canceled our non-refundable booking, citing their automated system" and claiming no cars were available. They insisted our only option was to pay an additional £168 for an upgrade

I had a fairly OK experience, as I was changed to a different car at the last minute from the one I had been booked, Now more than 15 days have passed since they initiated my deposit, the bank has informed me that the merchant has not released the payment, which is still pending with Green Motion. Green Motion says it is clear from our end but may take up to 21 working days, which is not a good way to conduct business tbh, even when you have made all the outstanding payments at the time of returning your car. I have to live with less credit on my cc because of their undisclosed refund policy, or an issue at their end due to which I have not been credited yet.

I had great experience with Green Motion's service this month from Edinburgh to Glasgow. I took the basic service, with limited mileage of 100m per day. Although the final mileage was slightly over, they didn't charge me extra, which was nice gesture of goodwill. I also got upgrade to a bigger Skoda wagon, which was quite new and nice to drive. My deposit got released after 5 days too without issues. Thanks team at Green Motion! Five stars from me!

Great car hire company. I booked a hire car for business purposes at short notice when my own car had an urgent repair. The collection process was quick and easy (it was a Saturday lunchtime, which I thought would have been busy), the drop-off was similarly prompt, and the member of staff I spoke to was polite, knowledgeable, and friendly. I got the exact car that I booked, and it was my husband who was the designated driver (he drives manuals, whereas I can only drive an automatic due to mobility issues).There was no issue finding the location of the office/collection point, as the address and directions were included on the confirmation documents.If and when my car's next in the garage, and I need a hire car urgently, I'll likely return to book with Green Motion again.
