Fantastic little venue. They have a little bar too for soft drinks and the hard stuff. Very friendly staff. We were lucky enough to get front row seats (as you can sit where you like) and Troy Hawke was just outstanding!

I have had the pleasure of collaborating with the International Anthony Burgess Foundation on numerous occasions. Each time, I have been thoroughly impressed by their professional approach and warm welcome. Thanks to the dedicated staff, particularly Ian Carrington, the events and venue manager/coordinator, our event was meticulously organized and executed. The building itself radiates character and history, offering excellent facilities for a wide range of events. The atmosphere was vibrant and electric, striking a perfect balance between intellectual engagement and warm hospitality. The Foundation's commitment to preserving Burgess's legacy is noticeable in every corner of the venue. Notably, the on-site bar added an extra layer of charm to the overall experience. Their exceptional services make the foundation a haven for a wide range of cultural events.

People we know had hired the Engine Room to stage a concert and it was excellent. Small but very reasonably priced cafe/bar, ideal intimate performance space. One thing to note: toilets were unisex downstairs so not sure if disabled friendly but other than that superb venue

Okay priced cafe, had the option for loose leaf tea which is always a plus! Got some chocobannana cake too and it came to just under a fiver which isn't too bad. Came on a Wednesday morning and it was lovely and quiet so had chance to sit and read my book

I had a great time at a Manchester Lit Fest event here. Seems small but perfectly formed and the same goes for the bookstore. Can't wait to go back ☺️

Interesting place for any Burgess and literature fans. A nice cafe even if you're neither of the above.

A place of culture. I have been there for two conferences, a poetry reading event and coffee with friends - each time the atmosphere was really welcoming. Very friendly staff.
