Unbelievable work!! Carl built us a stone wall, carved our 250 year old lintel in place and then carved us a stone fireplace for a wood burner. The work is top quality but crucially he is reliable and provides clear communication about all aspects of the job. I would recommend Carl to anyone looking for a stone mason.

Carl's work is exceptionally first class. Very professional, left my house clean and tidy after full re-point. Would definitely recommend and use again. Excellent service from start to finish.

My wife and I cannot compliment Carl enough on his standard of work, a true professional in every respect. We live in a Grade II listed property built in 1670 and comprises of handmade brick and stone, most of which had been covered in cement render in the 1970s. During the time when Carl was removing the render to allow the property to live and breathe again, he unearthed a multitude of issues ranging from brickwork that was falling away, the front and gable wall were not tied together, soldier lintels had been replaced with concrete, and windows that were sitting on concrete lintels to hold them up. None of these issues were too much for Carl and he painstakingly nursed our home back to life, rebuilding the brickwork with heritage bricks and lime mortar to allow the property to breathe and eliminate the damp in the walls, installing stone quoins to bond the two walls together, re-creating soldier lintels to replace the concrete eyesores, and crafting sandstone cills to support the windows. Our house was the first house built on one of the few protected greens in the northeast, itself 1500 years old, and it as has a considerable history behind it, it has been a house, a school, and a chapel, and thanks to Carl’s craftsmanship it is now stands proud again and generates many compliments from our neighbours and passersby. Also noteworthy, most of Carl’s effort was during the cold months, when at times it was so cold the compressor hose froze over, however, this did not deter him from his mission. Stone masonry is a dying art and it was a pleasure to witness Carl, who is from a family of stone masons, work his craft. We will be seeing Carl again later in the year when he is back to recreate two pillars on the driveway in the same design as the existing heritage pillar in our front wall. Well done Carl.

It's very rare these days that you get the opportunity to have work done by properly trained professional craftsman. Carl has built for us some electric gate pillars and an adjoining stone wall designed to fit in with our property that was built in 1842. The work is to an excellent standard and has attracted very many positive comments from passers-by. Carl starts the job on time, finishes on time and sticks to the agreed budget. The place was left clean and tidy when the job ended.Carl is exceptional at what he does, so don't be disappointed if you have to wait a little while until he's available. Don't bother looking for someone else, as you'll only regret it in the long run.

Causer Stonemasonry and Restoration replaced weathered sandtone cills and coins on the bay at the front of my 1873 3-storey house with beautifully cut new sandstone pieces. Carl and his apprentice, Luca, also repointed stone and brickwork to the front and rear, turning and remaking some indurated stones, and using lime mortar to maintain the breathability of the construction. They rebuilt two old brick walls to the rear, recycling as much of the old brick as possible. They also rebuilt the front bay which had foundered. The work they have completed, as planned and on time, has been exceptional. They worked very hard. The initial quote was accurate, and billing prompt and well itemised, and communication throughout was superb. More than anything Carl is helpful, kind, highly skilled and offers good advice. The whole street has complimented their work! I highly recommend Causer Stonemasonry and Restoration and thank them for doing such a fantastic job. (Coffee helps!)
