Akbars Birmingham: A Culinary DisappointmentMy recent dining experience at Akbars Birmingham left me feeling thoroughly disappointed. The restaurant, renowned for its delectable Pakistani cuisine, failed to deliver on its promise of flavorful and authentic dishes.I had high hopes for my meal, particularly for the lamb shank, a signature dish that had garnered rave reviews. However, upon its arrival, I was immediately struck by its lackluster appearance. The meat, which should have been fall-off-the-bone tender, was surprisingly tough and bland, devoid of the rich, aromatic spices that are the hallmark of Pakistani cuisine. As I delved into the dish, my initial misgivings were confirmed. The gravy, while generously portioned, was woefully underseasoned, offering little in the way of flavor enhancement. The accompanying vegetables, while cooked to a perfect al dente texture, were similarly devoid of seasoning, adding further to the dish's overall blandness. The disappointing lamb shank was not the only element of my meal that fell short of expectations. The naan bread, typically a fluffy, flavorful accompaniment to any Pakistani meal, was dry and chewy, offering little in the way of textural contrast or flavor. The rice, too, was unremarkable, cooked to a mushy consistency and lacking any discernible seasoning. In addition to the culinary shortcomings, the service at Akbars Birmingham was equally underwhelming. Our waiter, while polite, seemed inattentive and rushed, often disappearing for extended periods without providing updates on our order or offering drink refills.Overall, my dining experience at Akbars Birmingham was far from what I had anticipated. The bland food, coupled with the lackluster service, left me feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. With so many other excellent Pakistani restaurants in Birmingham, I would be hard-pressed to recommend Akbars to anyone seeking a truly authentic and flavorful Pakistani dining experience.

This is a very popular Indian restaurant and deservedly so.Food is superb, and you are asked if you would like it mild, medium or hot.The family size naan are huge but still light and fluffy.Parking can get tight on an evening so please book and preferably arrive early as some parking is shared with other restaurants.

Good service and good food. The starters were underwhelming but the mains made up for it. Special mention for the nihari and the beautiful family naan to go with

Visited on a weekday. The place was well organized. Service was impressive especially from the Asian lady who was taking orders. Food quantity could've been better. Great location and ample parking though

Huge restaurant, service is okayish. Food wasn’t that great either. We love Akbar’s in Manchester, service is fast and food is great there. The food in Akbar Birmingham tasted rushed, flavours were not upto the mark and too much spices (Indian speaking!). Service is fast but no one really cares if you need anything or are even enjoying your meal.At MCR Our regular’s are- Lamb shank, butter chicken or spinach chicken. For appetisers lamb chops and masala fish are to die for.

Have to mention it at the beginning that I'm not a big fan of Indian food, so my comments could be very biased. It was a group dinner for me, I didn't vote for the venue.Akbar is a famous Indian restaurant that can be found in many cities across the UK. After walking in, the internal environment looked gorgeous and beautiful. The service was really nice and kind. But for me, the core of a restaurant is always about the food. Unfortunately, Akbar was a huge disappointment in that part.Firstly I got a Starter Platter, the chops and the chicken wings looked delicious. After some quick bites, I suddenly felt nervous. I could taste something like charcoal, the outer part of both the chops and the chicken wings was burnt. Apart from that, the chops were too spicy and too salty for me. Not a very nice start, next mains. All of the Indian mains looked the same before I actually asked to know that there were 4 different dishes! They might be very authentic, but I'm sorry they didn't move me at all. Wait, I might be partially wrong. Because my stomach was moved actually, in an unpleasant way an hour after finishing my dinner! Well I heard that it was pretty common for people that were unused to Indian food, so not a big issue. The Mango Cheesecake served at the end was good, well not an Indian dessert anyway. Overall the food quality was below par, I gave 3 stars because of the environment and the service. As a side note, the takeaway bags they gave us were leaky. That caused some coloured juicy liquid of those authentic Indian dishes to come out, definitely something I really wanted to forget as quickly as possible. Will I come back If I have my right to vote for the next venue? Probably not.

My favourite Indian restaurant, the perfect place for a curry! We’ve had many family celebrations here over the years and absolutely love the food!Highly recommended for everyone, if you like your food a little more authentic or spicy, order from the Desi Menu on the back!

Akbar's food is amazing and the atmosphere on a Saturday evening is buzzing. Be warned though - if it's a busy night, you will be waiting a while, both to be seated and to get your food. It's worth the wait, but be aware of that!
