We had food as a Xmas fayre this past Wednesday. I'll start with the good points - staff who were there were very friendly and helpful but clearly over stretched despite there only being a few guests in and our party of 11.Now the not so good bits. We did have to get staff attention a few times, but again they were doing their best. The lady who did our carvery was lovely and polite, unfortunately food however was cold and wasn't up to much. I was starving which is why I didn't complain. It wasn't bad, it was just not hot!The orders for our table got mixed up a little bit but was sorted.I noticed none of the staff had notepads or ipad so were a bit flustered. My step dad noticed one member of staff who was not serving our party helping themselves to food from the carvery. We were not sure if this was allowed but it looked a bit odd. This is absolutely nothing personal towards the staff who did their very best. They were the best part of the evening and are clearly very talented waiters, waitresses and carvers. Despite the pressure you could clearly tell they were under I think they tried to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The organisation of the fayre was just poor I'm afraid. We booked well advance and some food options were not available and for a sitting which would normally take around 1.5 hours taken around 3 hours. By the end we were getting very tired and a bit prickly.I'm not convinced whether I want to come back yet.

We have been a few times recently as we used to love Toby Carvery in the previous town we lived in.This particular venue is absolutely abysmal which makes me very disappointed as it's one of the only ones for a fair distance. It is in real desperate need of a huge deep clean. The cleanliness is quite frankly disgusting to the point where we will not go back now. Real visible dirt that could be so easily resolved. Floor was filthy and that's not even the carpeted areas. Windowsills and lamps filthy. Bad bad bad. New management needed here ASAP!On our visit last week, half of the items were not available and what was left was horrible dregs at the bottom, who wants that when you're paying money to eat at specific carvery restaurant? Swearing chefs just added to the whole thing. It's not even overly cheap anymore so can't even claim you get what you pay for"."

Hubby and I went to Toby on Thursday last week (30th November). We were asked by waitress if we had booked which we hadn’t as we have been many times before and never needed to. We were shown to the bar area. I asked at 12 o clock what time the Carvery opened? She was non specific and instead of answering my question she just said we are waiting on meat. When she showed us where to sit, she then informed us that we have to collect our own drinks and cutlery from the bar. When we eventually got some food (over half an hour later), it was served on cold plates! A very unpleasant experience and also the room itself was cold. I left about half of my meal due to it being so awful. I often meet my sister for lunch at the Dudley branch, Plates and food are always hot. The staff there don’t tell you to collect your own cutlery either they serve you properly even in the bar area. It is a superior experience in comparison. If Telford Toby is part of a chain then it is a disgrace. I do not want to pay for food that is cold and more so that is not as good as I could have produced at home. I nearly asked if they wanted us to wash our plates up for them. Unfortunately, an experience not to be repeated. If there was an option for less than one star, that’s what I would have given.

The food and staff was amazing. Good value for money too.The upholstery, furniture, carpets, decor and facilties are desperately in need of update. Ripped bench seats, dad had an uncomfortable wooden chair. It was very cold throughout, lots of people blowing on their hands to keep warm. Staff are super nice. If you don't update the place for your customers, at least do it for your employees.

Roy machine wasn't working. No crayons or colouring in papers. No ice cream. Dried up meat that looked like it had been there all day. The inside bits of the lamb were lovely, but the rest dry and chewy. Dirty cutlery. Server asked me which J2O I wanted, I said apple and raspberry so he brought me orange and mango. Child meal of meatballs - 3 meatballs very dry. Didn't even look like meatballs. Lots of food on the floor round the carvery bit - big slip hazard. Car park pitch black so Wenden if there were any signs we couldn't have seen them. Too many good places to eat around there so they can't afford to serve food like that.

This is the second visit here. I must say the service is appalling short of staff, no sense of urgency or speed. We had to wait until half way through or meals for our drinks we ordered when we were shown our table. The wait to be served at the deck was over 5 minutes. No chef/server in attendance. The chef/server served one customer then went into the kitchen for more plates that also took an age. There were other customers waiting with their meals in hand for mint sauce and some waiting for gravy. The young waitress and what I assume was the manager were rushed off there feet. The food was just hot enough to eat and reasonably cooked. All in all a 2* experience and only worth the 50% off we paid. Certainly not a full price experience. Needs major improvement in service, speed and attention to customers.

AWFUL EXPERIENCE BREAKFAST WITH SANTA - we booked to take our little boy to see Santa, it’s his first proper Christmas, while we didn’t expect much in the first place we were shocked at the actual experience! Breakfast is what it is you know what you’re getting , after eating we went to see Santa, we turned the corner to see a half arsed attempt sat in the corner, there was no interaction with our boy I was trying to make convo and get Santa involved, our boy quickly lost interest and we decided to say leave, he didn’t hand our lad his gift that we had paid for and we had to go back in to collect this, I expect a swift response on how this issue will be resolved. A lot of children and families will be left disappointed and if this if your breakfast with Santa is experience it should be cancelled

When we arrived we were stood waiting before being acknowledged by staff when 4 members of staff were just talking at the bar. When finally greeted they had our table ready quickly and took our drinks order straight away, we waited for 10 minutes for drinks to arrive but they hadn’t so we thought we would go get our food and hopefully the drinks would be ready. When we arrive back at our table only 2 of the 4 drinks were there, we asked a member of staff for the 2 remaining cokes it took them 30 minutes to bring those 2 drinks after following it up twice! During our food no member of staff checked on us. The lamb and beef were tough and you couldn’t cut through it. The turkey was lovely & full of flavour. The Yorkshire puddings were also delicious. The cauliflower was undercooked and hard, the roast potatoes were soggy and bland. When we finished our meals, we were going to order dessert for the children but after trying to get staff attention and being left for another 30 minutes we decided to leave. This is the first time and the last time I would ever eat at a Toby carvery, severely dissatisfied in service & food.

Toby Carvery a blast from the past that should remain in the past.As with all establishments within this price point quality is never high, but food should always be hot, fresh and at least edible. Cold veggies, Yorkies dripping with cold oil and Meats dry and barley warm, soups microwaved until the bowl is hotter than the sun, yet leaving the contents barley warm. This shows how far from the glory days Toby has fallen when carvery was once king.Service very slow, very forgetful (4 people dine yet starter and desert course had a meal missing and staff have to check the system). Staff polite and apologetic.Cleanliness not the best, table was set but left with multiple sticky residues.Over all Atmsophere akin to a retirement home, not offensive but not a place that becomes memorable.Fond memories of Toby now forgotten, best point of the Apley Arms is plentiful parking.Even at this price point there are far better places to eat
