Lovely room, breakfast never materialised

Having previously stayed here a couple of years ago and enjoying our stay then myself and my boyfriend decided to book The Grampian Hotel for a night as we were catching up with friends.This time round our experience wasnt as good as last time. To start with we arrived at the hotel at 3.50 and it was all locked. The doorbell you were supposed ring for somebody to come didn't even work. We were knocking on the door and still there was no answer. We tried phoning 4 times and still there was no answer. We tried to knock again but still no answer. By this time we had been waiting for 20 minutes. We decided at this point we would leave and try and find somewhere else to say. If it hadn't had been because we turned round and checked we had the correct number for the hotel that we realised there was someone standing in the doorway. It was then we realised that this lady was actually the owner. Her excuse for not coming to the door was because she needed her paper - now I understand that she needs a paper but I can't seem to understand why she chose to get her paper when she knew guests were arriving.Positive: The room was big and spacious and we had a lovely view out the windows.Although the room was nice and clean at night it was very dull due to only one lightbulb actually working on the main light. The power was of a poor quality and had very little power to it.The next morning I wanted a cup of tea - when I poured the milk into the cup it came out in clumps and smelt off needless to say I poured it out straight away.It came to check out and this was just as bad as the check in. We went downstairs and knocked on the door beside the front (which used to be the living room) and there was no answer. We knocked again - rather loudly may I add - and still no answer. I then decided to open the door and it appeared to be as if someone was camping on the floor as there was a duvet and pillows, I quickly shut the door. Now there was no number on the door or a lock so it can't be a room. We again tried knocking several times but there was still no answer. We had now been waiting 15 minutes to check out. Next thing we heard was coughing so decided to knock again but still no answer!! This was increasingly frustrating as we had now waited 20 minutes. We decided that we couldn't wait any longer as we had plans. We decided to them leave the keys at the desk beside the front door as we had no other option.Although it may not seem like a big deal what I have said but I just feel that the check-in and the check out had just put a bad look on the entire stay. After this stay we won't be back.

Superb accommodation as advertised but make your own breakfast...plenty of places in Dundee though.

The room is beautiful and big. Lots of room. The ensuite bathroom is very clean and bright. It looks like the interior was recently done. I have stayed in 3 other hotels in Dundee and, except for one 4 star, I would choose to stay here. It is a great value for the price. I had a great experience.

The rooms are realy great and looks like they were remade not long ago. The cleanliness was OK but not perfect. Especially below the bed it was dirty and also the bathroom was Not perfect but OK. Realy quiet in the night. Wenn did not try the breakfast.
