Love this cinema. Visited it as a Glasgow student many years ago. Now back staying in the city centre and it is one of the best things about living here. Great ambience, excellent prices (including over-60’s discount) and such a wonderful range of foreign & independent films. Best independent arts cinema in Scotland.

One of my favourite places in Glasgow. Brilliant selection of independent films, in an beautiful, classy environment. The staff are lovely and helpful. As a new person to the city, coming to view films here by myself has become a great pleasure. Thank you <3

Everything about this cinema feels right, the location, the decor, the overall ambience and above all the choice of the films that are shown there. The GFT is a living working monument to the communal experiencing of the most immersive method of telling stories humans have so far devised. It gets us out of our houses and away from the convenient but often insular world of the wide-screen TV and reminds us that we are social beings rather than isolated consumers of media product. The GFT is a great reason to come into the city centre and has been my favourite cinema since we moved to Glasgow in 1978.

Just visited this place once to watch Oppenheimer. Loved the experience and the tickets were cheaper than other IMAX screens in the city. It is definitely worth an experience however it is unlike other theatres with distant screens. If you are sat on the front rows then you would be too close to the screen. Make sure you reach early and grab centre seats in either middle or last rows.

I have always been loyal to the GFT (including donating money during COVID) but a horrible recent experience has changed my opinion completely. I planned to use my weekly MUBI GO ticket, for which I pay a monthly subscription, only to be denied entry as the barcode would not appear on my app. This was because it was past the specified 'start time' of the film (although trailers always last a while afterwards) - and to give this some more context, I was clearly heavily pregnant and the cinema was not busy for the film. I appreciate that the barcode not appearing could be problematic, but the response from both the ticket clerk and the manager was completely dismissive. Although I remained calm and polite throughout, they refused to listen to me, look at the proof of my MUBI membership or come up with a solution aside from paying full-price for a ticket (completely tone-deaf in a cost of living crisis). Being asked to leave the cinema while pregnant, vulnerable and alone was a very upsetting experience.Everyone I have told this story to has been appalled and my husband, who bought the membership as a gift, emailed to complain. The CEO's response was cold, corporate and full of contradictions - for example, she said they were strict about not letting people in after start times, but also that I had the option of paying for a ticket. Deeply unsatisfied with this response, my husband emailed again to point out the inconsistencies but the GFT did not deem us worthy of a further response.I want to support the GFT, and the fact it is often the only cinema in Glasgow that shows smaller films means I will be back. However, I have since used my last few MUBI tickets in a chain cinema and the warm, friendly service I received was in stark contrast to the GFT.As a, in theory, Glasgow institution, and the only independent cinema in the city, the staff appear to have an attitude, conscious or not, of entitlement, knowing that it will continue to attract people even if the customer is not prioritised.

Recently seen Oppenheimer & Talk to Me at GFT. Friendly staff and easy to navigate the space. A staple venue in the city.

Welcoming place with a well lit foyer, staff are friendly and professional, building has original art deco features, choose your own seat anywhere in the auditorium which is clean, tidy and of a bygone era but comfortable enough to enjoy a visit no reclining seats, bargain tickets for Friday matinees. Alcohol and non alcoholic beers available, as well as coffee which is freshly brewed and tastes as good as coffee chains, soft drinks also available watch out for the magic till.

This has got to he the best cinema in Glasgow! GFT has a wonderful atmosphere and a great selection of films, and on top of that it's quite affordable. They also regularly do dementia friendly screenings or screenings with an audio description option, which is nice to see!
