Very massive and beautiful with study spaces. I’d say it’s the most beautiful University of Sheffield building

I went into this building not expecting much, but as I stepped in I was pleasantly surprised to be met by a surging sense of ocean ambience. The open space provides a welcome twist on the concept of waves, while it’s clean lines are reminiscent of less successful University of Sheffield buildings such as The Diamond, the drifting tidal undercurrent throughout really sets this building apart. The swelling wooden detail catches your attention, bringing a balance of warmer notes to the otherwise cool space, and accords well with the undulating ripples of light and glass. The sense of crashing waves can be a little overpowering earlier in the day, but later dies down to a gentle in-tide on a light summer evening.

The Wave, The University of Sheffield
Large spacious building with nice Cafe in the bottom and plenty, almost an ambiguously large amount of free space. Skylights make the building nice and bright in the ambience. Rooms are quite large but outside seating area has few plugs available near tables; they are built into the floor. I understand it is for social sciences but it should really be 24/7 open and not only 0800-1800 weekdays.Ideally, to make the building more environmentally friendly they should have installed some passive greenery on the outside faces, which wouldn't have cost much to install or upkeep but would improve the atmosphere and general wellbeing of the students around - at the moment it is a rather hulking building with little features devoid of waving windows and lights at night which illuminate only the very front. The space inside could also have been improved with more seating or even some indoor greenery - not over the top like the Eden Project, but enough to give the building a genuine attractiveness for students outside of social sciences.
