Peter Lanyon Furniture

I attended a 2 day Green Furniture Making Course at Peter Lanyon Furniture. This was an incredible course, jam packed with hands-on making, tools and information, but also the opportunity to make your own unique table / stool design which you take away with you at the end of the 2 days. Even with a wide range of learners and previous skills and experience, we all made quality pieces to take home. Peter is so knowledgeable and a wonderful tutor - very attentive, interested, kind and patient. Also, his apprentice Toby is a real asset to the course and workshop - such a knowledgable and skilled young man who supports course participants throughout their time as well. You really are in good hands in this course, and I couldn't recommend it to anyone enough. Looking forward to going back in the new year some time for steam bending and more making!

I have completed five greenwood courses (often joined by my grown up son) with Peter since my first visit in 2018 making chairs, a stool and a table. Each course has been different but they have always been hard work, great fun and totally absorbing. The support from Peter and his team has meant that we have been able to complete projects beyond our expectations. I now have the tools to carry on at home. My wife is mildy concerned at the proliferation of chairs but, on the upside, there is somewhere for everybody to sit at Xmas.

Absolutely excellent course. Peter and his apprentice Toby are extremely skilled. The teaching was first class. Not only extremely talented but also patient and brilliant teachers. They were always willing to help, go over things and help again (which I needed!). I am amazed at what I made in two days with no previous skills in this area at all. The course was very well structured, continually learning but not too intense. I can't quite believe how much I learnt, thank you! Everyone's pieces looked amazing. It was extremely enjoyable and great to leave with a skill I can use and develop at home. Thanks Peter, I hope to come back for other courses with you soon!!

It is a pleasure to attend Peter’s courses. As a tutor he is patient and gently guides people through the necessary stages to finish a gorgeous and personal piece of furniture that will last generations!

Had an amazing time creating a small table with Peter and peters apprentice Toby. Their experience and total understanding of their craft was very reassuring and allowed us to feel confident and excited about what we could achieve. Peter and toby were so professional and welcoming that I’m definitely going to do another course.I would recommend everyone to go and create something wonderful.

I had a brilliant time learning about green woodworking techniques and steam bending with Peter and his assistant Toby. We were given the choice between two different types of stool and were encouraged to follow our own design tweaks as much as possible. I’ve come away from it feeling really positive about having a go at some more green woodwork (and woodwork in general). Peter and Toby were always encouraging and their professionalism and passion shone through at every stage of the process. I would wholeheartedly recommend a course with Peter and will hopefully book on another course in the future! Thank you!

I have had the absolute pleasure of experiencing two of Peter's courses up until now, and I must say that I enjoyed them both immensely. They inspired me to commission Peter to make me a 'Double Salix' settee (pictured), with a seat made form one massive piece of ancient oak - it now has pride of place in my hallway. Peter is an all-round good egg, a supreme master craftsman and designer, and a gifted instructor with a lovely manner and way of working with his students, Whatever your age, young or old (like me), whether you are new to green woodworking or an experienced maker, he will take absolute joy in teaching you to make something beautiful and enduring from timber using just a few simple tools and your own hands. I highly recommend his courses - sitting out in fresh air in the meadow outside the workshop shaving timber provides soothing therapy for the mind in these hectic times.

Had a brilliant weekend with Peter designing a small table and learning traditional green working techniques. Cannot recommend the course highly enough, if you're experienced or never touched a tool you will get a huge amount from it! He is so patient and a great teacher full of knowledge and a brilliant eye for design. Amazing value, learnt a lot and came away with a piece of furniture I will cherish. Thank you again, Peter!

Peter made us a wonderful desk and shelf for our office from locally sourced ash. Peter and his apprentice, Toby, were great to work with and we couldn't be more happy with the outcome.

I can’t believe I made a chair myself.I have no experiences of woodwork.After signing up for the workshop, I was still uncertain whether I could actually do it.But after 6 days, voila, a unique, functioning chair stands next to me.Peter was such a down to earth and genuine person and his teaching was just great. I was a slow learner but he was very patient with me and was open hearted. I learnt a lot from him.After the workshop, I feel that I can not only make a chair myself but also use many tools that I didn’t dared to use such as a drill.I would def come back for another workshop.
