Fantastic place to buy cars, me and my wife have both bought cars from tavistock motor company and can't praise Giles and James enough both great sales person and great at just letting you take your time with no pressure. The cars we brought were valeted to a high standard and as customers we were taken care of very well. Would recommend these 100%!!!

I would highly recommend Tavistock Motors Co.I previously brought a car from them and recently have had dealing with Giles, who I have to say is always polite, professional and from my experience trustworthy. He is reliable and made all transactions stress free. I would buy from him again.

I bought a used Mercedes from Giles at Tavistock motors, the car was in great condition and has been fantastic. Interestingly after a week the ABS sensor went on the car so I phoned up Giles who recommended a mechanic and they covered the cost of the repairs, I had the car back the same day. I have been very happy with the car since and I trust the three month warranty that was given to me.

We recently bought a car from Giles at Tavistock Motor Company (TMC). Giles was an absolute gentleman and went out of his way to make sure everything was as it should be. I thoroughly recommend TMC and they would be first on my list when looking for another car. It's rare these days to find a better example of good customer service.

It's quite difficult for me to type this review, as I'm genuinely not the type of person that leaves negative reviews, this is the first time. But I feel I have to get off my chest the worst experience of purchasing a car ever.Back in February I bought a Renaulsport Megane from Tavistock motor company, the initial dealings with Giles were very pleasant, he let me view and test drive the car with no pressure to buy. Unfortunately this is where the positivity ends. On day one of picking up the car I noticed a tyre sensor warning when driving home, thinking this was going to be a case of just a quick reset when I got home, I proceeded to carry on home with the vehicle. Partly my mistake as I should have turned straight back round and got my money back, hindsight and all that. Turns out it couldn't be reset and hence I took it to a local garage for them to look at, rather than drive 58 miles back to Tavistock. The local garage said two of the sensors were badly corroded and likely hadn't functioned for some time, they also mentioned that the car shouldn't have passed the MOT with the fault present. I spoke to Giles about this and he told me that it was fine due to where on the dash the error was showing, which I've been told by two other mechanics since as being untrue, also a quick Google search confirms a TPMS fault is an automatic failure, yet there wasn't even a single advisory? The local garage also mentioned one of the wheels had an excessive amount of weights on it, possibly due to someone inexperienced trying to balance the wheel. With these few issues I obviously had alarm bells going and so I started to dig through the paperwork, lo and behold the cambelt was six months overdue to be changed, which as most people know can lead to catastrophic engine failure... The vehicle was sold as freshly serviced and checked, so how was this missed? And the TPMs issue? But having spoken to the garage that allegedly serviced and MOT'd the vehicle, they clearly knew about the TPMS issue.Tavistock motor company got the cambelt done under warranty and provided a courtesy car, but no compensation was offered for the loss of time and fuel. Now onto the next issue, the car started to misfire slightly under acceleration. Took it to a local garage and the spark plugs were changed which rectified the issue. The mechanic told me the plugs likely hadn't been changed in the vehicles lifetime, he did say it's not necessary for them to be changed every service but they should have at least been checked, the plugs were heavily soiled and also had rust present, so had been in that condition for some time.Anyway as the weather warms up I turn the air con on and guess what? It doesn't work! Naturally I assumed it just needed re-gassing, so back into the local garage it goes. 30 mins later the mechanic phones me and says the air conditioning condenser is in a right state. So again another thing that should have been picked up on a checked and serviced vehicle. Again this was done under warranty but meant me losing two days holiday at work to take the car to Plymouth twice, as well as around 200 miles worth of fuel and the cost of entertaining myself for two days while in Plymouth for the duration of both days.On top of all this I've not had a single apology or acknowledgement that the vehicle hadn't been checked properly. The ironic thing is that I remember Giles telling me that I should avoid buying a car privately.I'm sure one of the team will be along soon with the usual platitudes of 'we got the car repaired for you and most our customers are happy', but this unfortunately doesn't hide the appalling experience I've had. Ultimately a warranty exists to cover the unexpected, not for things that should have been found with the most basic of checks. As anyone reading this can imagine, I've lost any and all faith in ever enjoying this car. It's currently sat on my driveway for sale at a grand less than I paid for it. if I'm lucky I'll only lose 2 grand overall with the rest of my costs.

Being elderly I have over time dealt with many car dealers but Tavistock Motors are by far one of the best.Friendly helpful with no sales push. My granddaughter and I have bought cars here and had great service. If you're looking for a good second hand car this is the place to go first.Highly recommended.
