The Mission

What an interesting, somewhat cavernous restaurant! Surprisingly cosy and warm, despite the high ceiling. It was quiet when we visited at 2030 on a Thursday night, but this didn't spoil what was a great meal and a lovely time. My asparagus and duck egg was well executed, as was the wife's scallops and pork belly; the only marginal issue was some slightly gritty pea shoots that both were served with. Our mains of pork belly and mackerel were delicious. We had glasses of unoaked South African chardonnay which was well rounded, Muscat was floral and honey'd and Chilean Merlot was a complex but not overpowering foil for my pork. The cappuccino was very decent too; just a smidge hotter than a typical Italian offering. Recommended; we would visit again.

My husband and i love this restaurant. The food is always delicious and the staff friendly and accommodating. Service can be slow but when your presented with delicious, freshly cooked fare i don't mind. This is a place for a lazy kicked back meal. If your in a rush there's plenty of fast food joints! We've just enjoyed a fabulous lunch there today to celebrate our wedding anniversary. There were 7 of us and nothing was too much trouble including allowing my daughter to bring a specially made cake for the occasion. Thank you.

What a beautiful resteraunt. Sympathetically decorated and lit to show off this old mission to it's absolute best. Cosy, smart, trendy and historic all in one go. Would make a stunning wedding reception venue. Just had coffee this time but staff friendly and easy going. Menu looks great so heading back to eat soon.

Table for one on a mid week business trip. The early pre-theatre deal (before 1830) takes some beating with a good selection available from the full menu at an excellent price. I would definitely recommend The Mission and I will almost certainly go back again.

Very fresh mussels with amazing sauce, and tender juicy beef steak

Lovely decor, and amazing food. I had the bacon carbonara which was the best ive ever had, better than i could cook myself. The burger my partner had was also delicious. Perfectly seasoned and with delicious slaw and chips (i dont like chips so my opinion wont count). She had a dessert after but i was too full after my very generous portion, and the brownies were beautiful. 10/10 would recommend.

Absolutely loved this place. Very generous portions of good food (so go hungry). Reasonable prices for an excellent variety of good quality food. Hopefully all responsibly sourced, I was unable to find out. The staff were friendly and it's all set in a very pretty building. Would go again.

In my humble opinion the best food and atmospheric in Plymouth excellent cocktails hand made with the best ingredients - only one thing is negative is the gents toilets20th December- so sorry to hear The Mission is closing- we have had so many great times and fantastic food there- wishing all the staff and management all the best in the future. Very sad

Christmas Meal for 30+ people was fantastic!Timely service and staff were quick and professional on getting food out.All food was delicious and was full of flavour.Starter - Chicken liver pate, Main - Pork Belly & Desert - Chocolate Brownie.Would highly recommend a visit!

This was a great find. The food was fantastic, even though I had a simple carbonara it was very flavorful. My partner has a steak that was cooked to perfection. The restaurant itself is stunning, although it was very very warm to start with. The staff were polite and attentive, although being picky communication between them could be improved. Would thoroughly recommend.
