This is going to be a fantastic building and I'm very proud to be delivering it to the team in a month or so. Very happy with this one!

We took my relative out for a walk today and found he was limping. After removing his shoes and socks discovered that his toenails have not been cut. He’s been in there since January and obviously hasn’t been out during this period. Apparently only a chiropodist is allowed to cut his nails and nobody had mentioned this.To be fair to the home, he does seem happy there. They allowed us to install a golf practice net in the garden and they arrange a wide variety of activities for residents. We have not been able to see his room yet, because of Covid, but hopefully that will change very soon.

My friend put her mum in speedwell. She hunted round for the best home and speedwell was all singing all dancing. Sadly it proved the have the building and facilities but not the qualified staff. She had calls every day with problems and issues. She went in every day before lockdown to shower her mum as staff couldn’t do it. Sadly with lockdown things went from bad to worse. Her mum was often in dirty clothes and unkempt. She went down hill rapidly and has now been moved to a better home. In leaving, speedwell had lost 90% of her clothes and personal items.I’ve watched my friend go from thinking her mum would be looked after to feeling huge guilt at placing her there. I’m shocked at the treatment of her mum and wouldn’t recommend anyone send a loved one there. Sadly in this case you don’t get what you pay for.

My father was given a place at Speedwell after being diagnosed with a terminal illness and we feel blessed as a family that he was placed there. He was only there for 6 weeks, but during that time we got to see what a lovely, caring place Speedwell is, and how kind and caring the staff are. What struck is most about Speedwell is that it doesn't feel like a care home: it feels more like a nice hotel. All of the staff we met from the receptionists, to the caterers, to the housekeeping staff and carers were all so kind and friendly and couldn't do enough to help us and make my father's stay as pleasant as possible. As my father entered the final stages of his life, the carers did their very best to ensure he was comfortable and peaceful, and they went out of their way to accommodate our wishes, even allowing us to use a spare room so we could take if in turns to stay with my father throughout the night. During the time we spent there we also saw how kind and caring the carers were towards the other residents. Residents were treated with dignity, patience and kindness. We cannot thank Speedwell enough for what they did for my father and my family at such an upsetting and difficult time. A big thank you to everyone and especially Sam and Maddy who took such good care of my father. Every care home should be like this. ❤

If you are ever thinking of sending a loved one to speedwell dementia care please think twice. Unfortunately we had the sad decision to place our mother there in February of this year, after a full assessment by a so called member of staff we were informed they were willing to take mum and could cater for all her needs ( unfortunately this was not the case) . After endless phone calls from speedwell informing me they could not manage simple routine of personal care, so I stepped in for the first month to do this before lock down. Sadly during lockdown things escalated, endless phone calls and there approach of handling mums ever decreasing health was to medicate, when this didn't work and staff who I personally believed inadequately trained in dementia care could not cope speedwell gave us as a family notice to move mum. You can only imagine what effect this has had on our mother, but now is in a professionally trained nursing home. THIS HAS BEEN A HARROWING EXPERIENCE FOR OUR MOTHER AND AS FAMILY .

Being a neighbour we have watched this building rise from the old industrial site and were recently invited round to see the finished product. What stuck out for us was the quality and thought that had gone into making a large building feel like real homes. Residents have individual spaces as well as numerous entertainment zones, including a cinema, salon, games room and airport viewing platform.Every interaction with the staff team before, during and since our visit has been first class and we will happily recommend you facility and wish you every success in the future.
