This place was a great little find. Had a sandwich & drink at the café, food was good, well-presented and reasonably priced. Place was not too busy when we visited (2pm ish on a weekday in late June) so getting parked & finding a table was fine. And then the gardens... Well really lovely gardens to walk around, for a £2.50 donation it was well worth it. We're not gardeners but still very pretty, lots of little birds flitting around, we especially enjoyed the abandoned chapel and graveyard.

Parking was free, the Cafe is called the old coach house; the staff are 1st class and the food is well presented piping hot and delicious. The gardens are huge and most of the plants are for sale. The highlight of the gardens must be knarled South African copper beech tree aged 400 years old.

Varied range of quality plants, trees and shrubs for sale An interesting Garden Walk on offer but some of the marker stones were hidden by shrubs or were missing which made it hard to follow. Good to see so much fruit and veg being grown. Lots of different varieties of apples on the trees.

Eggleston Hall Nursery & Gardens are walled botanic gardens are 400 years old. Victorian glasshouses & potting sheds enclosed by tall stone walls, perfect for the espaliered fruit trees. It's unique, special, 'A Timeless Treasure'. There's a honesty box charge to enter the gardens, but free parking at the adjoining car park, toilets and refreshment too at the tea room & gift shop. Plant sales from the Victorian glasshouses & potting sheds, with lots of quality plants that are all grown here - not brought in from overseas! The gardens cover a large area that includes the remains of the former parish church that is a listed building. Make sure to look at that, on the waymarked tour of the gardens. Sit on the benches and spend awhile in quiet seclusion, admiring the gardens in their sun-trap setting. Dogs are welcome on leads.

Staying in Eggleston for a couple of days on our way up Teesdale, visited Eggleston Hall Gardens. Very large and well stocked garden centre, massive range of plants. The cafe/ restaurant is excellent with a very good menu (and large portions). We didn't visit the hall as it is a private residence but it is in a beautiful setting.

Didn’t visit the Hall. Only the beautiful walled gardens and plant nursery. It’s a lovely place to visit. It also sports a garden shop staffed by a very friendly and helpful lady, a cafe, shop, ruined church and its very own “Cherub of the North”. We’ll worth a visit that won’t disappoint. Next time we’ll see the Hall also.
