Excellent firm of architects especially for house extensions. Great skills, imagination and listening abilities.

I’ve worked with Somner Macdonald on three separate projects and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. I have found Seán and the team excellent to work with, they are collaborative, organised and have always sought solutions to deliver the projects which have consistently exceeded my expectations.

Horrendous experience with NB practice. Took literally years to do very little, kept stringing us along that things would be happening and we eventually gave up when we discovered his budget price was also way, way off. Has cost us an enormous amount of money and time.

We commissioned Sean at Somner MacDonalds to be our lead architect for our full house refurbishment in Edinburgh. His creative flair coupled with his outstanding eye for detail excited us from day one.Sean walked us through the planning application explaining each step in the process and always found a way to resolve any issues with our application.Despite many challenging times we managed to achieve everything we wanted from planning thanks to Sean with his straightforwardness and tenacity.Sean helped us choose our builder, Redbuild, and together their team dynamic was more than we could have asked. Issues were always resolved in a timely and professional manner and although at times I’m sure Sean was overloaded he remained calm and professional at all times.Our house refurbishment is outstanding. We are more than delighted with the end result and cannot thank Sean and the team enough for all their hard work in ensuring the quality and finish was as expected; we were hard task masters when it came to quality.As for recommending Sean and Somner MacDonald, in our opinion there is no better in Edinburgh. Sean and Oliver at Somner Macdonald have been great throughout the planning, build and follow up stage of our building work.They were very good at offering up different options and adapting their designs to our ideas and suggestions.They have also been really responsive and have helped to resolve any issues or difficulties that inevitably arise in a renovation project.I would definitely recommend them and our builders, who I think have made the whole process as painless as possible!
