Tumbling Weir
Just telephoned to book a room - the phone was answered unprofessionally with a slightly annoyed/impatient 'hello' - no introduction and not welcoming. When querying whether I had got through to this hotel, the man answered - I have just got out the shower and it's only 08.30". I would have thought that business/booking enquiries at any time would be met with a welcome - customers are obviously not that important!!"

Tumbling Weir
Beautiful and unique tumbling weir. Hidden down a path between the park, car park and river. Here use to be a very historical mill and the which some of the old mill is still in tact but converted into houses and hotel? The tumbling weir can be viewed from a view point which holds an information point about its history. Really interesting attraction.

Tumbling Weir
Unique area, well worth visiting. The name refers to a very rare type of circular stepped or cascade weir in Ottery. This weir used to allow the overflow water from the mill stream leat to reach the River Otter some 2 metres below, the remainder of the water being drawn off to power millstones in the adjacent Mill. Now, as no water is drawn off for power, all of the the leat outflow passes through the weir and into the culvert below, whereupon it reaches the Otter. In about 1778, the ancient corn mills (which in one form or another, had occupied the site for some 700 years) were demolished and replaced with a modern mill, much of the shell of which remains today, albeit in the process of being developed as apartments. The leat and surrounding area are well worth exploring, both to the south along the path along the river Otter towards St Saviour's Bridge and beyond, or along the mill leat itself towards the adjoining Land of Canaan public space.
