The Mudlarks Memorial

We may not have looked close enough at this memorial, but there appears to be no clue as to what it commemorates. However a bit of research has identified it as Commemorating The young people of Portsmouth that used to gather around the Hard to earn money by carrying cases or even amuse the visitors by diving into the water for coins. Its all very romantic, but in reality they were little more than beggars from the poorest areas of Portsmouth trying to make a few coins to survive on.
