Bickleigh Castle
Absolutely stunning location, gorgeous gardens, and amazing venue for a wedding. The room I stayed in could be more comfortable if there were blackout blinds, a door stopper, and a mirror. It was a shared bathroom, so getting ready for a wedding isn't the easiest when you don't have full access to a mirror

Thank you so much for having us, we really all had such a brilliant and unique time. Sarah, John and the rest of the team created a brilliant atmosphere for us to ease into the weekend, get ready for our wedding/ help our hangover with a great brunch. In particular, the reception in the Great Hall on the Friday night was a highlight. The roaring fire and John's piano playing provided an atmospheric back drop for us to start the weekend with. John also led a lovely secular Remebrance Service in the 6th century chapel as it was 11/11, which provided a poignant note before we headed off to the ceremony in Aylesbeare.

Awesome place to stay. Hosts are fabulous and super knowledgeable about the extensive history of the castle. Breakfast was excellent, best coffee we had in the UK. Be a fun place to run a wedding or event!

We had a lovely visit to Bickleigh Castle on one of the open afternoons. The castle is very atmospheric and is filled with authentic pieces that were associated with the castle and its past history. The staff were very friendly, helpful and informative and the cream tea was delicious.

We chose Bickleigh Castle as our perfect venue to celebrate Brigette’s 60th Birthday in May of this year. The planning began some 7 months earlier with Sarah and Marie, who could not have been more supportive. They were as enthusiastic as we were and guided us through the many options which Bickleigh offers. Also, very grateful to them for the suggestion of securing Scott Farr to cater the party - faultless. We were blessed with perfect weather and it proved to be the most memorable of days for us.Our arriving guests were greeted with cool Pimms cups in the Courtyard and subsequently Castle staff proffered canapés until we were called to dine in the Banqueting Suite and a wonderful night commenced. Our deepest thanks to Sarah, Marie, Monica and to John for his kind offer to show our guests around this gem set in the heart of Devon - the celebration was everything we hoped for.Our thanks to you all.

In the heart of Devon at the end of a tree lined Avenue that follows the river Exe, lies Bickleigh Castle.A beautiful Castle Estate that dates back to Saxon times with history that stretches both world wars. Including rebuilds and occupation, this estate is steeped in history. As you arrive you are guided towards a small reception at the front of the Castle. There in, a large collection of information on the local area can be found, and of course a warm welcome from the owners. ( even if we did have to wait 10 minutes and locate the owner because he was snoozing in the back garden). We were escorted to our room that was situated in the Barn Cottage. We opted for a superior suite with private bathroom and we were not disappointed. A large, very comfortable double bed, sofa, dressing table, fitted wardrobe and a TV.Our stay included a full breakfast and the cost for the two evenings was approximately £230.The Cottage itself was separated on two floors with family rooms and single rooms available with shared bathroom facilities.Little touches like hand embroidered curtains were really nice to see and gave a beautiful feeling to the place. Our room was clean, tidy, well stocked with tea and coffee facilities with a wonderful view of the forest and Gardens behind. We had a stroll around the grounds of the house, and along with the ornate ponds and garden pathways, you can enjoy facilities like tennis, croquet, and a hot tub if you wish. There is even an armoury that includes suits of armour and muskets.Breakfast with served in the tea room which consisted of a small servery area and a spacious conservatory area to enjoy your food. There was also a common Lounge attached to this room with comfortable seating open fire and a warm atmosphere to enjoy. In The Cottage Courtyard I noticed there was also another common room on the first floor and a rather nice painting easel was there to be used. The castle is situated close to two food outlets. The first being the Fisherman's Cot, and the second being The Cadleigh Arms. It's a short walk to either along the country road.

Nice venue, dishonest ownerOur music organization held our 5th international music course at Bickleigh Castle, July 7 - 14, 2023. It was, logistically, the worst experience we've ever had. We spent the week fighting for what we agreed upon in writing and I cannot recommend this place to anyone until it is run by new ownership. The harrowing experience began a week before arrival when the owner, Sarah, claimed that dinners were not included in the quote she provided us *in writing.* We had already charged our participants a set fee and were suddenly in a position to have to personally cover an additional $10k to pay for dinners in order to honor what we promised our 52 participants. (After pressing, Sarah agreed to provide 5 out of the 7 dinners, but we had to personally pay for 2). She promised hot breakfast, but we got a cold one on the first morning. I had to press her, once again, to honor what she promised in order to receive the promised hot breakfasts. During the week, we received a bogus invoice sitting on our bedroom table for things we already paid for. She had an unpleasant attitude as if we had inconvenienced her that whole week and had the gall to wish everyone farewell by asking us for a favorable google review on our final day.The staff, especially John, were very kind people. But it's clear that Sarah suffers from some delusion and dishonesty uncaptured by the google reviews which we regretfully relied on upon our booking. I invite you to call and ask anyone in the town of Bickleigh or Tiverton about the castle and you will, as we did when we arrived, learn of similar horror stories from wedding events held at Bickleigh castle, and the true character of an owner who continues to taint this otherwise beautiful, historic venue.
