We loved the room and bathroom. The pub served a lovely roast dinner. We liked the location next to the canal. We found breakfast too expensive and so decided against having it.

Really nice rooms- warm and cosy and very tastefully decorated. It was a shame that the choice of continental breakfast was very limited- tea, coffee, juice - and the only choice of cereal was Weetabix. On the other hand the full breakfast was excellent- one of the best I've had at a hotel.

Room was really lovely and comfy, grateful a fan was supplied as very hot in there!Initially, check in was good too, the person who checked us in was thorough. We had dinner there and were disappointed though. Service was slow and the waiting on staff were really nonchalant and their customer service was lacking, we found we had to approach the bar several separate times to ask them to place our food order, to find out where our drinks were etc. After we received our starters and they were cleared we requested to move tables as my sisters baby was struggling with the temperature and noise and we didn’t want to disturb other patrons. When our main food was served one of the steaks was the wrong cut and severely over cooked so we sent it back.We had to go to the bar for the bill as no one approached us.The girl we spoke to seemed unenthusiastic and nonchalant, no service with a smile. We tried to use the app for the £20 discount and we’re told even though the bar code was there we couldn’t use it as it was less than 24hrs. Unsure why a barcode would appear to be used then not be allowed to be used? Requested to speak to a manager who then told us the same thing and there was nothing he could do. We asked if we could settle the bill when we checked out but were told it had to be settled there and then, which we found comical considering nobody had made an effort to ask us if we wanted any puddings or the bill then suddenly there was an urgency to pay. Advised the manager of the lack of customer service and slow service from the waiting on staff who told us this was because we moved tables. Not sure what the excuse for the service was prior to us moving tables? I also don’t think when a customer complains you should be blaming them. It seemed like whatever we had an issue with they had an answer for that blamed us.We stayed for drinks outside and ordered puddings through the app. Ended up going to ask where puddings were as an hour later they hadn’t arrived. Was told that they thought we had ordered main meals which was why our puddings hadn’t come. Even though our main meals that we had were hours ago, weren’t ordered through the app and were under a different name and the bill had already been settled for them?!Breakfast the next morning- the staff were lovely, really friendly and chatty. Breakfast being served was a little slow and my poached eggs yolk was hard but it was all fine. Glad we had much better service though as we were feeling really disappointed at the lack of customer service the night before.I’ve heard really good things about the Cheshire Cat for staying and eating so was disappointed in the service and quality of food, this really let it down. I also want to say that when a customer complains, you then don’t throw the blame back on them.Overall the customer service was just really disappointing.

Food on the evening was very good and the waitress, Anais, was very attentive and friendly. The location was lovely. The bedroom was standard. Breakfast! NO cereal other than granola! I usually just eat cornflakes fruit and yogurt for my breakfast, so I had granola, fruit and yogurt and it was tasty, but I would have liked to have had this plus a poached egg on toast, but I wasn't allowed!! You could only choose one item from the complete list! Very disappointed in the breakfast.

The room was very nicely presented and very clean. However, the bedside lights didn’t work which was problematic as we had our teenage daughter share the room with us and it would have been nice to read after she had gone to sleep. We had booked dinner in the restaurant but sadly almost all of the food had sold out. We were given our main courses complimentary because of this but there was very little lift on the menu to choose from.It was an uncomfortable atmosphere as customers were complaining and as a result the waiting staff looked stressed. We then decided to have a drink in the bar as it was only 9pm but we’re told the bar was closing. The staff all looked very ready to shut up shop so we took a glass of wine up to our room (but had to sit in the dark as this is when we realised the bedside lights didn’t work and our daughter was asleep. Next morning we had breakfast at the hotel but it was not what we had hoped for. The cooked breakfasts were bland and my poached egg tasted of vinegar. My daughter ordered the pancakes only to be told they had run out of maple syrup.Altogether it was a somewhat disappointing stay.

Excellent stay again as we came same time last year. This was carried over becuase I has booked via the website initally for a football trip earlier in the year but the game was rearranged. Therefore phoned the Hotel direct and they were excellenty at accomodating a change of date so much so that we booked an extra night.Staff were very frioendly and efficient.Room was lovely, no complaints. We left early on the Sunday as we were up but the inter connecting door was still shut at just gone 8am, so we used the night entrance to get to the car park but took some time to locate a member of staff to drop off the key.The hot tap in the wash basin just kept spurting out water rather than running normally and the side lamp on the left hand side of the bed on the wall had come away and needs resecuring, loioks like this has happened before and screws need re tightening, I did but it back as best that I could.

Service and staff, also price was very good. Room really clean and lovely, homely. The only minor critism is that a family with small children and my husband all wanted cereal, which was offered no problem for my husband but the children were struggling with the toast. Having said that we would book again the food served was plentiful and of good quality. Thankyou

All the staff were really friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely, with a nice big comfy bed. The bathroom was lovely, with the shower being spacious and always hot running water too. The food was incredible, we had evening meal on our arrival day and we had breakfast the morning after, there are plenty of vegan options and also just general accommodations as my partner did not want a full breakfast so he could just choose the items he wanted instead. We shall be visiting again as there is more to see and do in Chester!
