My old garage 'retired' in December and the one I went to next was not very good. I picked Romans without any idea if they would be any good but they have been excellent. They have fixed stuff very quickly and lent me a car so I could get to work.

Lovely receptionist who was very helpful with the warranty process. I booked my car in for a diagnostic as it broke down a few days prior, they said the battery was faulty so I paid for a new battery and diagnostic (£200). Unfortunately the car proceeded to break down on a further two occasions the week after so their diagnostic was incorrect, so took it elsewhere second time round.

Saved my bacon a few times, as a new driver I have thoroughly messed my car up, the fact that they were able to do everything in a day was incredible.

I needed new brakes fitted urgently to my Audi. I popped into Romans in the vain hope they could help me. They were very helpful. Roman costed the job, very reasonable, the car was on the ramps in 20 mins, discs and pads fitted and on my way within an hour and a half. Great garage, very helpful and thorough. Very happy with their work. Would recommend. Jon

Prior to my recent interactions with Romans, I used them only once before, and on that occasion they were great. However, recently my car failed to start. The AA informed me that I needed a new starter motor, so I took it to Romans and paid about £300 to get a new one fitted. 4 days later, my car failed to start again, in the same way as before. I called the AA, and explained that it seemed like another starter motor problem. The mechanic was skeptical since I'd only just had the starter motor changed. He checked the battery, the fault codes, the key. Nothing. When he finally inspected the starter motor, he was shocked. It was covered in dents and scratches, suggesting that it had been hit several times. There were only two explanations he could think of: either Romans never replaced the starter motor (and the dents were from the previous AA mechanic who hit the starter motor to start the car the first time it broke), or, Romans fitted a faulty starter motor and had to hit it themselves to get it to start. So, we took the car back to the garage. After they fitted another new starter motor, we respectfully asked for an explanation about the condition of the first one. The man we spoke to (receptionist, owner?) said that my key was the cause of all the problems and showed us a photo of a fault code (which may have not even come from my car). Now, I'm an automotive engineer. I may not have the tools to fix my car myself, but I know a thing or two about cars. If it were the key, then there's no explanation why the car could only be started by hitting the starter motor (as was the case on both occasions with the AA). Also, this doesn't explain the dents and scratches on the first starter motor they fitted, which they claim was brand new.We tried to have a respectful, calm conversation. We explained that we're not questioning him personally, since we know that he wasn't the mechanic that worked on the car, but that we would like an explanation that makes sense. To which, to our shock, we were called 'narrow-minded and liars'. Bare in mind, he himself told us that he only came into work at 4pm (we were there at 5:30pm), meaning that he didn't actually see any of the work done by the mechanics. We did not appreciate the tone or the accusations, and we still didn't have answers to our questions. We could have pressed the issue more, we had grounds to, but we were going in circles, and the conversation was starting to turn rude. Needless to say, we will not return. For proof, I attached a photo with the first 'brand new' starter motor that they say they fitted. Also, the second one they say they fitted, doesn't even match the first one - which raises more questions...

AVOID AVOID AVOID! After they failed my car’s MOT they said they could get all necessary parts in the next day and finish the work, to which I agreed. The next day I was told at midday that the parts were late coming in and wouldn’t arrive until 3 so the job would be done by 5. When I arrived at 5pm the people working didn’t even know the car was here, they hadn’t done any work on it and the MOT guy had gone home. The parts were just sitting in the office (if they were actually the parts). The owner was completely un phased so I presume it is a regular occurrence. He refused to give me his name after I expressed concern and stated that I wanted to know who I’d spoken to. He then just handed me my key and said ‘get it done elsewhere I don’t want to do your work’. So they have had my car for 2 days and done nothing but abandon me with a failed MOT. I cannot be certain but it is possible they used the car whilst I was not there.

Good quality service and friendly staff. All work carried out is well documented. So you know clearly what has been done and what has been advised. It was my first experience of this garage. I was very happy with the customer service.Update 06/0223I’ve continued to use this garage over the last year for MOT and repairs. They still remain the best garage I have used in the last 3 years. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The work is completed in good time to a high professional standard. They act promptly to any post work issues. Superb garage.

I was very pleased with the level of service I received from Roman's garage. My van was leaking coolant and I needed it back as soon as possible. Other garages could not fit me in for weeks but Roman's looked at mine that day and I soon had my van back and fully fixed. Also the chap in the office was very friendly and I would fully recomend this garage to anyone. A happy customer.
