Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa

We were there for a wedding, we got a meal including within the price but unfortunately was extremely let down with some of the food. Portion sizes extremely small, I understand fine dining but it was actually laughable for the expensive lamb dish. However room very comfortable, bed very soft and a nice touch with the robes. TV in the bath did work but you could not see the screen so pointless. Staff v.friendly and as a location for a wedding STUNNING.

Couldn't fault the hotel and grounds, the Spa was amazing. The reception staff more than helpful. The brasserie staff excellent service. The restaurant staff a little disappointing attentive on first night there and then lacking thereafter not what would expect from near Michelin starred food that was amazing. Overall would go back there.....

We stayed for two nights in mid/late July. The welcome from the receptionist was friendly and we were offered a glass of water or sherry which was a nice touch. Our room was perfect with a large balcony overlooking the gardens. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The spa facilities at this hotel are by far the best I have ever experienced. Everything is clean, modern and the outdoor infinity pool is amazing. We sat in it for ages just looking out over the gardens and watching the wildlife – bliss. We ate in the more informal Brasserie on the first evening and the food was lovely. As mentioned in previous reviews, Ronnie is a star. He was attentive, informative and fun. If you don’t come across him during your stay, then seek him out – he’s a star. After a day out in Keswick the next day, we returned to the spa for more relaxation before a drink in the bar prior to eating in the more formal Lake View Restaurant. The bar was staffed by Fraser who was polite and welcoming. He seemed to be doing a lot for one person and we did have to wait a while for our cocktails, but this was by no means down to him. I suggest the poor chap could do with a hand when it gets busy! We could only book in this restaurant at 8.15pm, which was a little late for us to eat. We did, however, go in just before 8pm and it didn’t seem to busy. I’m not sure how their booking system works, but it seemed a bit out of sync on this occasion. We were shown to a delightful table with a stunning view of the grounds and the lake. We were looked after by Lucas who was charming and efficient. The food in this restaurant was of a very high standard. The entire staff are very helpful and attentive and we are particularly grateful to Lyndsay (apologies if that’s spelt incorrectly) who took time out of her very busy day to show us round the hotel as we are returning in November for a special occasion. Breakfast on both mornings was served in the Lake View Restaurant and was faultless.

Top service, everything the old fashioned way. Food presented for a king, with the correct taste for a queen. It was wonderful. Hickupped at the quantity of the food, but the quality was outstanding. Gracious and elegant....price was a bit of an obstacle. BUT....you pay for real quality and service.

A night away with the girls to celebrate our 40th birthday.Beautiful hotel set in the most spectacular of places.Quiet and serene.Staff are incredibly welcoming. Spa staff were amazing, and all of our party thought the therapists and the treatments to be perfect.The food is delicious, and the restaurant staff were super friendly and made the experience a warm and welcoming one.A lovely receptionist helped us with a great walk down to the river derwent and back over to the lake, that ebeded our trip perfectly!Would definitely visit again, possibly with the family as it's family friendly and next to a wildlife park. The lake was very quiet, which also makes us keen to return!

I cannot comment on the bedrooms as I only visited the hotel for an afternoon coffee. However it is a beautiful buildings in amazing grounds and the views are wonderful. The main rooms are cosy and warm and inviting. I hope to return soon for a meal and would very much like to stay at some time in the future.

Fantastic stay at Armathwaite Hall. We celebrated our wedding anniversary here, which was also our wedding venue 6 years ago.Fantastic service and amazing food during our stay.Special mention for Ionut at the cocktail bar who is a master of his trade. Exceptional service from a true gentleman.We will be returning very soon

Fantastic historic hotel in a beautiful setting. The old building is presented in just the right way, showing it just as should be.The hotel also has a spa and pool that makes the most of the location. There is an infinity edge pool outside where you can soak in the natural surroundings. A decent sized pool for swimmers and a sauna and steam rooms.Some of the rooms are absolutely huge and dog friendly.Breakfast is amazing.

Stayed early September. We were well taken care of. Alvin in particular was very attentive and took care to anticipate our needs and do whatever he could to accommodate these. We stayed in ground floor rooms with their own patios and lovely views across the grounds to the lake. Rooms had Plenty of space and finished to a high standard. This was our second visit previous one was 2014.
