VEL RESTAURANT BRIGHTON
I have no idea why this is rated 4.4. This has probably been the best and most authentic Indian food I have ever had in England, From brick lane to Brighton I have been constantly disappointed. All these new and high rated Indian places to eat are just not that great. I have been to India many times and this by far is the best.The chef was Rahul and it’s located in kemp town, it was fresh, very tasty and authentic! Will be going back regularly! Just wish I found it earlier!

Been in Brighton for a while now, and so many people have been hyping Vel up for being the “best Indian restaurant” in Brighton! That’s a questionable label…First off the place was packed with tons of people, and this increased my expectations for the food. You can also see the chefs make the food in a traditional sense through the glass window, which was a show to watch!We ordered a variety of food! Just wanted to note that it’s a South Indian restaurant meaning that the options differ compared to the commercialized Indian restaurants.We waited for more than 30 minutes to be served the food as they had tons of orders to deal with.The daal tarka was tasteless and way too thick! It was drenched in turmeric and missed the actual tarka that was expected.The chicken 65 was quite average and was dry. I expected it to be more crispy and juicy.The dosa was basically the only thing I enjoyed along with the flavorful chutneys and potato masala! It was crispy but got cold really quickly.The filtered coffee was watered down and did not carry the essence of what filtered coffee should be.

Everything looked so delicious … didn’t even click good pics … next time will click better ones , yes there definitely will be a next time …This is my second time in Brighton and second time in VelThis time had pepper chicken curry , coriander/chilli naan …Raja , Rahul and Asif … hats off to you guys … very good chefs …Wonderful service by Martha and Priyan ! Keep up the good work guys !

Sub-par Indian restaurant near Marina. Congested seating if you're not on the sofa. Service seems less experienced and very slow. Food was average.Hygiene a bit dodgy, found a hair in my chicken curry.

Decent dosa (thosai) - sambal was spicy and delicious, dosa was nice and crisp with simple potato masala'Chennai super king dosa was very spicy so be warned but great with coconut chutney.Too many tables for the space so not comfortable to sit. Friendly servers. Unclean toilets. Overpriced for what it is but pretty decent food

Very impressed. Great selection of food. Veg and meat. An Indian dessert called sooji that isn't available everywhere but was excellent, just like everything else. All in all you cannot go wrong.

Visited the last night for a dinner on a bank holiday. Had to wait for 10mins for seating and another 30mins to get the Menu on table. They were busy and only two people to manage all tables. But once the food arrived it was worth the wait. All the things we ordered were super delicious and taste like original Indian dishes. South Indian food was something best I had in UK better than any of the sarvana bhavan’s.

I have tried most well established Indian restaurants in the UK and this is the best Indian restaurants I have ever visited in the UK. The dishes which were exciting were mutton chukka, dosai varieties, butter milk and coffee. Must try these dishes when you visit. When you ask for coffee, please ask for strong one if you are a fan of kumbakonam coffee drinker (if you don't get one, again request to make it strong like I did). However, the chilli parrota, fish curry and fish fry were average taste. In curd vada the vada needs to be socked to taste even better. The ambience was really great with Tamil songs. Try to book a table of you visiting over a weekend or bank holidays.

Nice cute authentic Indian restaurant in Brighton. I have been to many Indian restaurants in Brighton but Vel is one of my best. One can really enjoy delicious south Indian foods. Staff are quite friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is not quite vibe type, would suggest to add some background music while guest enjoying their foods.
