Galtres Lodge Hotel

A fabulous find! Our room, on the top floor, was small yet perfect for our needs. The bed and pillows were really comfortable. Bathroom was tiny but had a good shower.All of the staff were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. We needed to leave early on our second day (before breakfast service) and the chef went out of his way to ensure we could have something to eat before we left. The food was lovely. The full Yorkshire breakfast was spot on. I have dietary needs which were all catered for.Would highly recommend. Great value. Incredible location too.

Location is perfect, as it a short walk from York Minster.The hotel is a beautiful old building, and has been renovated to a very high standard. Bar was fantastic.However on top of this! The staff are what made this stay special.

Absolutely lovely place, staff are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel. It's in a great position for the Shambles and the Minster, plenty of other places nearby.

Second time staying here and it did not disappoint. Friendly staff, lovely comfortable room and great food. I highly recommend the turkey dinner (with or without parsnips :-) , in Forest restaurant. It's in a great central location, handy for the shops, pubs, market, restaurants and Minster. We had such a lovely time and will be back.

Sitting in the Forest restaurant having our last drink of our long weekend staying at Galtres Lodge. What can I say, absolutely beautiful hotel. If your looking for somewhere to stay that has amazing decor in a traditional quirky building with fantastic staff that will do anything for you then Galtres is the place for you. A great location right in the hustle and bustle of the City on the doorstep of the Minster ( you can hear the bells). Stepping on the street from the reception all of Yorks favourite attractions are only a short walk away. We stayed in room 4 which overlooks Grape Lane a lovely room which is perfect for people watchers whilst you listen to the nearby buskers. Great breakfast selection using fresh local produce. We are so glad we chose this hotel and we can't wait to come back. Thank you to everyone. See you again soon. X

If you want a quirky place, right in the centre of York. This hotel will fit the bill. Very comfy clean room. Very good breakfast. Exceptional friendly and helpful staff. We will certainly return

The room we stayed in was fabulous, however it was on the top floor and did get very hot on one of the nights we stayed, but otherwise was perfect - a good size, all of the facilities you would need, very clean and comfortable.The service was excellent, the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone really made an effort and you felt like nothing was too much trouble. I have dietary requirements and I told them this when ordering on the first day we arrived, and they remembered this for the rest of our stay, which really puts you at ease when you have allergies etc. The breakfast was delicious, and my dietary requirements were catered for with no issues at all.If I’m visiting York again, this would definitely be my first choice of hotel. We all had a fantastic stay and I couldn’t rate them highly enough.

Booked a stay for my Mum who doesn't speak a word of English, but that wasn't a problem at all! Staff were so welcoming and ready to help day or night. Room was amazing- beautiful bath tub, comfy bed and stunning interior . So clean and peaceful.The communication beforehand was wonderfully informative. We stayed here overnight. It is a family run, boutique hotel in the centre of York, which is completely do friendly. The location is fabulous, within 100 yards of the minster and the Shambles. We were welcomed by the owner who explained that they were undergoing work but that it should not impact on us, but please to be patient. It did not impact on us one bit. Considering the location and the style of the hotel, the rate was excellent value for money which include a breakfast which was also outstanding, using the best of local ingredients. It was clean and although it was a ‘small’ double, it was fully functional with en-suite. There is no parking in the street, but we were offered discounted parking locally which is also good value, as York parking is quite expensive. I have nothing negative to say about this hotel and the family who run it. Brilliant. We will be back.

The rooms here are lovely. Not very big but homely and clean and comfy. We had breakfast both days and it was lovely both times, staff here couldn't be friendlier. The hotel is in a good central location so easily accessible and lots around it. The only downside, and i do not put the rating down as it is not in the hotel's control, but the noise is a bit of a downside. There are some bars close by playing music late and then drunk people shouting outside. The bin men also come around 4am and are incredibly loud. However, when you choose to stay in the centre of busy York, you can't complain about it.
