Prokil Kensington, London | Damp & Timber Specialists

We went with Prokil late last year to do some rising damp work. Initially it was fine. We met with Wai and he was professional. We received the quote and agreed to the works.At around 4:00pm the day before the builders were meant to arrive at 7:30am, we received a call from Lizeth in the office informing us that they had misquoted us and would need to increase the quote by 50% for the work to proceed. After numerous back and forth calls, we ended on that we will discuss with the builders when they arrive on site in the morning.Wai arrived in the morning and agreed to do the works for the price that we originally agreed on. The builders were nice, respectful and tidied up after themselves.During this period, we had renovation works going on as well. We had a temporary plywood divider to block off the stairs to prevent dust from travelling to the 1st floor. A month after the damp works, we removed the divider and there was a gap where the damp works were done and our existing wall of around 2cm wide and 2cm difference in depth.I contacted Lizeth to see if they can rectify this. She said that they had sent me an email to say that it was my responsibility to remove any obstructing objects. I said I understand, but if I do not know that this object is obstructing the way then how can I. I argued that if the frame was obstructing the builders view then there is also a responsibility on their part to inform me and we could have taken it down in less than 5 minutes. We were at home all four days that the builders were on site and not once did they mention this to us.The end result was we sorted it out ourselves with another company. We received a generic call from a senior from their company for feedback but nothing ever came of that.In the end, the cost to fix the gap wasn't much but the overall experience working with Prokil was not very pleasant. From my personal experience, I would not recommend them. I had to do some more damp work this year and I did not go back to them.

I am unable to recommend Prokil Kensington. The job doubled in value after they started, claiming more work was required to fix the issue.Work then undertaken to resolve a damp issue has not rectified the problem and thus far they have not been forthcoming to resolve the issue and instead are blaming outside factors without being able to provide any details.

I found Prokil via a Google search for a company specialising in the treatment of damp. I was attracted to them because they were reasonably local to me and I was impressed by their website. The fact they offered a no-obligation site visit was also important to me.I e-mailed them with a detailed document with photographs in PDF format - this minor problem has been going on for five years and has defeated all previous efforts. The response from Karolina was quick and efficient, which isn't always the case with construction-related companies...She passed on my report to one fo their surveyors and soon came back to me to book a site visit. Wai Lam arrived on time and made a good impression.He conducted his survey and identified much more precisely than anyone else what the nature and extent of the damp was, and the most likely cause. He managed to pinpoint the saucer-size source of the damp and suggested how I might confirm the hypothesis.What he didn't do was try to pressurise me into commissioning work before I'd carried out my own further investigations. If it turns out I need Prokil's professional expertise I will certainly go back to them.

A damp survey was scheduled and carried out. The damp survey was received the next day. My queries regarding the survey were answered with efficiency and courtesy.I would recommend this company for damp surveys.

They deserve two stars just because they managed to “do” the work. But the communication was terrible- a few times they came to my house but pressed a wrong buzzer and then went away so I had to wait another X days for another appointment. They had to come 3 times because the initial check hasn’t been done properly. Lack of attention to detail from the survey level up to the actual works being done. They damaged the Victorian wooden fireplace surrounding and left the house in a terrible dirt (eg my private printer got broken due to the dust and the lack of a professional cover), including the brown paint splash on a white ceiling. Not to mention the fact that the actual works have been rescheduled three times, not even ending on time. They also came one day earlier than expected, forcing me to prepare my house for the works in a complete panic and rush. An intern would do better than that “professional “ company.

I recently had Prokil come around to check out some damp and mould. The surveyor was informative and polite. He explained why I was having the issues and gave me advice on what I needed to do to resolve them- It turned out I didn’t need any work done. Very honest, would recommend to anyone and definitely would use them in the future if needs be.

Absolute moronic behaviour by one of their drivers. Likes to park on zig zags outside of primary schools. If you are thick enough to do that, then not much can be said about the reputation of this company. Same driver consistently does this as he's obviously better than everyone else.Maybe use some of your little intellect to not park you heavily signed van in such a ridiculous place .

The team at Prokil was great. We had damp in our kitchen and the surveyor Joe very efficiently found the cause of our issue and recommended the works to fix our problem. The guys carrying out the work were so polite and they really made an great effort in keeping everything as tidy as possible.

So I went to Prokil because of their long history and positive reviews. However, Prokil Kensington is owned by a man called Wei who comes out to inspect the property. It is a franchise. He has two years experience and was trained by Prokil Bournemouth, not an accredited university. When I asked them to clarify they told me I was welcome to go elsewhere. When I then asked for a guarantee in case it didn’t work, I never heard from them again. I will not be using them. Make your own mind up, but for me none of these things engender confidence in the organisation or the individual.

Prokil (starting with Wai who did the survey, then Calvin and Samuel who did the work) were excellent. They gave a balanced survey, with honest assessments and didn't over quote for work or upsell us. Unlike other firms. Calvin and Samuel were timely, accurate, efficient and tidy. Calvin communicated very we'll and answered any questions. Samuel was very professional, worked quickly and produced an excellent result on both walls, removing plaster, damp proofing and replastering very smoothly. The clean up job both days was excellent, barely a hoover needed. Would absolutely recommend
