Alan King Piano Service

I can thoroughly recommend Alan. He has tuned concert pianos for Two Moors Festival for the last 3 years for some of the most talented and experienced pianists in the business. Nothing was too much trouble for him - arriving early in the morning or late at night depending on our chaotic schedule and often retuning multiple times in the day for retuning between rehearsals and performances. Without his ‘can do’ attitude we would never have got the show off the ground. Thank you Alan!

Alan has been turning our piano for many years and it is always a pleasure to see him. Not only is he efficient and extremely competent at his work, he is also friendly and personable - we have heard some fantastic anecdotes over the years. An excellent service.

What's not to like! Alan is a fantastic piano tuner and not even the smallest of niggles is too much for him to investigate. He is thorough and precise. He is also a wonderful, friendly person and I so look forward to our chats. An all round five star service. Alan has tuned my piano for as long as I can remember and I recommend him. You won't regret it.

Whilst Alan’s expertise and skill is undeniable, I was left quite disappointed at the inadequacy of his visit today.I had asked Alan to come to tune and replace a string on a piano I had picked up for cheap. The purpose of the piano was always to play around and learn on and never to seriously use as an enthusiast or professional, otherwise I would have spent a lot more money on a professionally refurbished item.Alan took one look at the piano and decided it wasn’t worth his time. He made me aware of some damage to certain components which prevented a small handful of the strings from being tuned (which was absolutely fine and to be expected at the price I paid for the unit), but refused to tune the rest or fix the broken string. He left less than five minutes after arriving.I was still willing to pay full price to repair the string and tune the notes that were still able to be tuned, but Alan insisted it would be a waste of his time, and after making a few rude comments about knowing what you’re getting into and learning that there’s no such thing as a cheap piano for learning on, he left.Overall, I felt like Alan was very judgemental. Whilst there are no doubting his skills, I believe Alan would do well to learn that not everyone needs or wants a studio/concert standard piano. At the price I paid, I knew the piano would have its issues and was happy for the damaged parts to be left as they where, excluding the broken string. Unfortunately I got the distinct impression that Alan believed he was too good to tune an imperfect instrument.Considering I booked time off work to fit into Alan’s schedule, I am thoroughly unimpressed. What a waste of a day.I would not recommend.

Alan has been tuning and conditioning my piano (C2 Yamaha baby grand) regularly since 2018. He really knows what he's doing and has done a great job of keeping the piano well toned, in tune and sounding great! He's always been really quick to respond to messages and to find a time to come round. Recommend!

First class tuner/technician. My Schimmel loves Alan. He gave the piano a thorough overhaul when he first met it after it had been in storage for some considerable time and continues to make it sing! He is also jolly good fun.

Alan did the first tune on my brand new piano, which was way overdue, and I can't believe how sweet it sounds now. Even I, a complete novice, can appreciate the huge improvement. Thanks Alan!

Alan has been tuning and refining the response of my recently reconditioned Steinway for nearly a year now, and I am delighted with what he does. He is an expert at his craft, takes trouble over the smallest detail, humours my most demanding requests (I am a professional musician), turns up exactly as agreed and does it all with a wry good humour which means that I greatly look forward to his visits. The piano always sounds magnificent after he has tuned it and I cannot recommend him enough.

Alan King has tuned pianos for Concerts in the West for many years. He has also identified two pianos to buy, which have been played by top young professional pianists. I expect to get advice from Alan as he is the expert, and for the pianos to be tuned and ready for a performance. I hope that we will continue to work together for years to come. Alan King has a life-long experience as a piano-tuner, tuning not only on the domestic scene but for Festival and concert venues.It was a great moment when Alan arrived in Wellington and Somerset from Glasgow over twenty years ago, filling a veritable vacuum. Since then I, friends and numerous piano students have been able to relax in the knowledge that our pianos will not only be excellently tuned and made to sound as good as possible, that minor issues such as squeaking pedals, buzzing notes and broken strings will be dealt with as a matter of course, but also that recommendations about major technical issues such as the reshaping of hammers or eliminating keyboard clatter will be proffered in the spirit of timely advice and consultation.
