Incredible ruins but closed to public for safety. A small path around the back but again, not advised for safety. The church and graveyard just up the road from it is quite interesting too!

The site seems to attract people who leave litter. The path to the back was overgrown with nettles. The front gate is closed so you have to get through the jungle to access the site. The inner gate is open. The ruins themselves are good and a QR code linking to an information page would be great.

Small but cute and very quiet when I went. You can climb you some stairs to see the inside from a higher angle.

Such an interesting ruin which seemed so small for a castle. After walking through and out the other side we were greeted with views that are second to none in every direction! Very peaceful and calm place to sit and enjoy the landscape and its history.

Got there and thought the castle was locked up, went round the back to have a look through the back gate and realised the gate had been cut open so managed to look inside too. Lovely little place to have a look round.

Nice to visit if in area. Parking for 2-3 cars outside or grass verge further down towards old church which is worth a visit too. You can now access the inside of castle as locks cut. No information boards.

A ruined medieval castle in North Yorkshire, the majority of the standing ruins are made up of the gatehouse. It is privately owned, but can be visited by the public. There is no information about the site when you visit. The ruins themselves are in pretty bad condition, and very much vandalised. There is graffiti everywhere, quite a bit of broken glass and rubbish strewn around, so mind your step. That said, it's a pretty dramatic place. The views are outstanding across the valleys and peaks, and when we visited there was heather burning on the moors so we could smell the fragrant smoke. Its out of the way and quiet and a place I would visit again.

It was fun to check out a piece of local history. You can quite clearly see there used to be a moat, there's a cemetery and a church further down. Great to explore if for a nice walk and some food in Swainby after. Definitely worth a visit. You'll have to park in Swainby however. No parking on site.

It's a small castle, with only the gatehouse and part of the vaulted storerooms remaining. A little rubbish in places, and some graffiti. But it's very nice for a short visit.

It's very small doesn't take more than 5 mins to photograph from every angle and walk around...but for me it's another bit of history in yet another location
