About the Business

The Cyril Hart Arboretum | Forestry England | Established in 1915 with trees brought back by the Victorian plant hunter Ernest Wilson from his 1910 explorations of China, The Cyril Hart Arboretum is home to over 200 tree species. Originally known as the Speech House Arboretum, it was later renamed the Cyril Hart Arboretum after Dr Cyril Hart who dedicated a lifetime of service to forestry and was a Senior Verderer (1952 – 2009) of the Forest of Dean. The collection of trees has been added to over the years and now contains species found from around the globe. The arboretum can be explored along surfaced and unsurfaced paths, most of which are flat and can easily accommodate pushchairs. The arboretum is also within a fenced area making this site popular with dog walkers.

Loved this place! Hadn't really experienced much of the forest of Dean so decided to take my dog and explore a little. Was not disappointed! The arboretum itself is small, but peaceful, however it extends well beyond with endless tracks and paths, lakes and woodland/ forest. Could walk for hours. Worth a visit for sure! Free parking too.

Nicely enclosed arboretum, no doubt to keep the deer out. However, this serves double purpose as you can exercise dogs off lead with little fear of them running off. Just pick up their poop, there are bins at the gates.

We as a family always enjoy a walk around here, lovely to see the trees change from one season to another. Can get a little muddy through winter but its a lot better than it used to be in that respect.

Lovely enclosed area in the Forest of Dean. Beautiful trees to see and access out the back and side into the forest. Because its enclosed, it is a very popular walking spot for dogs and can get really busy. If you don't like dogs yourself or have a reactive or nervous dog, I'd avoid.

I often go here when I'm in the Forest of Dean. Lovely place to walk the dog, all enclosed so no fear of traffic and lots of lovely, unusual trees, like the Giant Redwoods.

Great part of the Forest of Dean. One pro which is also in my opinion a con is it's completely fenced in, which is great for people to take their dogs, but the con is with all the dogs off the lead you can get mobbed to the odd dog and there is always going to be dog mess somewhere even though there are bins.

Once through the gate, you are surrounded by a dog-proof fence, so you can safely let your dog off the lead. There is always another friendly dog owner to say hello to, or pass the time of day. There are well- used poo bins and very little dung on the ground. There are gated paths leading off into the Forest and Speech House is close at hand for tea and cake after your walk. The arboretum contains lots of interesting trees, many of which, it has to be said, have seen better days.

We visit here regularly to exercise our dogs in the enclosed and gated area. Two good car parks make access easy and also gives you direct access to forest trails for longer walks.

There’s a few car parks, we always find a spot. There’s no parking charge. Lovely woodland with a huge variety of trees. The arboretum is secure for the dogs to be off lead.We do a few laps of the arboretum before heading out the rear gate into the forest. There’s forestry work going on at the moment so the trails beyond the arboretum are rather muddy and torn up. Lovely walks

Delightful small arboretum in the Forest of Dean. The arboretum itself is fenced in and is well laid out with paths and benches. Outside of the arboretum itself there are further paths leading into other 'less manicured' woodland areas. There was some labelling of trees but if there was more I would have given this location five rather than four stars. There is a small (free) parking area.
